12oz bottle to go from Cafe Abseits. Pours an opaque brown/black with some thin, khaki head. Wonderful nose, very true, malt, roast, toast, bread, light smoke, toffee chews, tootsie roll. Flavor is chewy with malts and grains and bread and toffee, there's a vinous character, raisinettes, chocolate, some mocha too. Finishes dry, full bodied, envelopes the mouth. Delicious.

Bottle from brewery. Pours a very dark but watery black. Aroma has anise dark chocolate. Taste is not super complex. Roasted malt and anise finish with hidden dark chocolate notes. Good!

UPDATED: MAY 6, 2016 Bottle at the brewery tap in Bamberg. made with liquorice near Bamberg apparently. black beer lasting tan head. mostly chocolate on the aroma though. hot chocolate but some roast too. yes rich liquorice in the mouth with more chocolate. dry finish. its delightful. almost like a chocolate liquorice aperatif. Liquorice is spicy. normally i would not like this style of beer but the liquorice is so real and so spicy and so intense its really sexy. like black stockings and suspenders on a shapely woman. not on me. obviously. really good. surprise of the day. a liquorice beer i like. i mean its intense spicy liquorice. wow.

Weich malziger Antrunk mit angenehmer Herbe. Schokoladig, geringfügig bitter. Vollmundig malziger Nachgeschmack, etwas Vanille. Gut! 13/11/11/9/11/11

Inter festas ’15 [email protected] Abseits, Bamberg. Spicy, cinnamon-like Süßholz/liquorice is all over this brownish Dunkel/porter crossover, but in a tasty way, well tied in. Bit like a Glühwein&Rooibos-infused porterised Dunkel, never fuming with abv, quite smooth considering its earthy sweetness. - Having just been to one of Bamberg’s Süßholz butcher’s that same day to sample the unusual liquorice-smoked ham and sausage, I quite had my fill of this local delicacy and would rather settle for beechwood-smoked Schlenkerla any time.

The head is stable and brown, the body black. It smells sweet, woody, darkmalty. The taste is darkmalty, less sweet, woody, nice a bit aromatic-peat. Nice 11/12/12/12/-/12
