For this holiday season, we have brewed a special Dunkelweizen beer with a twist. Our Brewmaster has adapted this classic, filtered dark wheat beer into a unique festive beer. Brewed using 100% organic chocolate from the Whistler Chocolate Company, a blend of spices and a twist of orange zest. Delicious, complex malts and light citrus balancing notes present a soft hint of festive, seasonal flavours.

Admin Note: The Chocolate Dunkel and seasonal Winter Dunkel are the same beers.

Bottle, shared with mmmIPA (and the kitchen sink). Medium brown pour, light tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is very candy-sweet, and evocative of Terry’s Chocolate Orange confection. The palate delivers the same fake candy sweetness that certainly captures a chocolate covered orange perfectly, but is syrupy and soda-ish. This will have its fans, but I’m not one of them. Drainpour.

Veiled brownish dark copper color, with a copper hue, and high activity. Foamy and slightly creamy dark beige 2-3 finger head, lasting around 5-10 minutes, with poor legs and light lacing. Flavors of mint, chocolate, coffee, toffee, nutmeg, barley, dark grains, banana yeast, ginger, vanilla, herbal spices. Gingerbread and spicy cookies. Creamy and silky, well rounded, medium to full body with a good crisp, soft prickly carbonation. Medium strength finish, burnt sugars, mocha feel, roasted malts, Christmas, soft clove and orange peels, with red ale spices and leafy hops. Very festive, filling, with an inviting smell. Feels a little like After Eight chocolate without being as disgusting, pretty well balanced and still refreshing. Tons of flavors, good interesting taste, quite complex. But one per year is enough, and it makes a nice gift. Overall very good quality craft.

Light brown pour. Very fizzy. Strong chocolate and orange zest aromas. Tastes like a chocolate orange. Maybe a little too carbonated but not bad

On tap. Pours a clear mahogany with a small, short lived, beige head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of milk chocolate and orange. Sweet flavour of milk chocolate, toffee, roasted malt, orange and a hint of spice with a dry finish. Light body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. A novelty beer that borders on cloying.

Xmas work gift exchange - at least I ended up with beer.... I think. Incredibly aromatic but damn it’s basically flavoured zippy water. Very interesting aroma of orange flavoured dark chocolate with a very solid warming quality - not quite exactly like the packaged product thanks to a subtle spice that works really well. THe aroma seems to find my nose from any distance. The problem here is that it tastes just like that. Sure, sipping a liquid flavoured in this fashion is fine but i got 644ml more to consume. Maybe the problem here is that I keep drinking it and now its become quite obvious that I’m going to be happily drinking it all. Usually I am not into this type of creation but somehow despite the sweetness I am not sickened by it after 4 sips. There is a bit of beer taste underneath it all and now a very obvious wheaty bottom that I somehow ignored. Lightweight without emptiness, some sort of menthol thing that i dig. Ended up loving this beer despite the extra fizz. How the hell did that happen?? I should have hated this. Damn aroma keeps tracking me down. Fantastic label colour and texture scheme.

Heavy chocolate and orange zest aroma with hints of coriander. Modest head and red body. Flavour is chocolatey orange, not bad in and of itself, but sadly too weak for this kind of beer. Lots of potential but a miss.

ENG: 650ml bottle from Liquor Mart in Winnipeg. Poured into the tulip. Very dark amber to red to violet color, small-medium tan head. Aromas from bottle are strongly chocolate. From the glass it’s even stronger - like orange jello in chocolate. Smells wonderful. Tastes a bit like an orange chocolates but not as much as in aromas, a bit watery, and it’s overwhelmed by a bit lager’ish sour bitters. Taste disappears quickly. Low to medium carbonation and low body. Overall it’s a very drinkable and refreshing, yet strongly aromatic beer. Too bad the taste (compared to the aromas) is that poor.

PL: Butelka 650ml kupiona w Liquor Mart w Winnipeg. Przelana do kieliszka. Barwa bardzo ciemno-bursztynowa, wręcz czerwono-fioletowa. Piana jasna, średnia, szybko opadająca. Aromaty z butelki mocno czekoladowe. Niskie do średniego nasycenie, niskie ciało. Podsumowując jesto to bardzo pijalne i orzeźwiające, jednak wyjątkowo aromatyczne piwo. Szkoda że smak jest tak słabiutki w porównaniu do aromatów.

Opaque brown. Quickly dissipating head. Orange quite present in the aroma along with malt, chocolate, caramel, and spice. Smooth creamy and light. Unique taste although much more akin to a brown rather than a dunkel. Mildly sweet orange and chocolate dominate. Malt and caramel are present as well. Extremely smooth finish. No hop. Certainly not my favourite, but I appreciate the originality.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, clear with a reddish hue and a thick beige head. Aroma is incredible, milk chocolate and delicious sweet candy orange with some caramel and butterscotch. Initial flavour is a bit of orange with some roasty malt and chocolate, but not much sweetness. Pretty light bodied flavour and thinnish texture. Flavour vanishes very quickly without a trace.

So the aroma on this is amazing. Pure milk chocolate and orange. Like Christmas in a glass. Unfortunately the palate really brings this down. Very thin and watery. Flavors are nice.. Just like the aromas.. But the water palate affects the flavor. This had potential.

Sweet vanilla organge and chocolate aroma. Taste, though, packs less punh and is kind of odd tasting. Watery finished and kind of thin palate. Had potential to be like one of their chocolate oranges but didn’t quite succeed.
