UPDATED: MAY 25, 2016 Motor oil pour, white head that disappears fast. Dr pepper in the aroma (wtf?) Wild yeast, caramel sweetness. Taste of flat cola, red wine, bandage-esque funk and a weird copper note in the end. Metallic aftertaste, Thinner body. Made it through my glass but that was about it. Pours like motor oil (look and sound = "glub, glub glub") no head no matter how fast or slow I pour with a dark black colored body and no lacing whatsoever.
The smell has the sour up front first and then light roasty chocolate enters in with some oak and tart cherry.
The taste is sour roasted oaky cherry chocolate all combined and coming through powerfully. There is a roasty sticky tart cherry aftertaste and a super dry roasty and somewhat tart cherry with a touch of vanilla finish.
On the palate, it sits about a medium on the body, not really sessionable but not really a sipper. Carbonation is pretty smooth.

2010 rating - thanks jdiddy. Pours super dark brown with red highlight. Small light brown head. Smell is dark malt, slightly sour fruit...a lot going on. Taste is slightly sour, dark fruit followed by tangy sour fruit...grapefruit. Mild carbonation with light body. It’s just OK.

750ml bottle shared by jsprime. black, tan head. odd dusty funky nose with roasted malt. flavour is like an infected stout. sour funk clashes with to much bitterness and acrid roasted malt. didnt like this, but i could finish my sample so its not the worst White Birch ive had. Pours a murky amber color with an off-white head. Nose is just awful. Super metallic, smells like pennies. A light balsamic note, leather, maybe some wood, and salt. The flavor is watery, but still manages to pack a decent punch of off-flavors. Pennies, vinegar, dirt, cardboard, and salt. Why?
