Pours a black color with a brown head. Aroma is of citrus and pine hops with some chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor up front is the citrus and pine hops. These flavors give way to the chocolate and roasted malts. Plenty of bitterness on the finish as well. ModeEngage (152) - Lowell, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 8, 2014
Bomber. Pours opaque black with tan head. Smells of coffee and roasted malt. Drinks smoothly with moderate lingering bitterness. Medium to full bodied. Tastes of bread, coffee, and roasted malt. DruncanVeasey (8260) - Nr NUNEATON, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - MAR 6, 2014
Big bottle from Pioneer supermarket on Columbus. Thick obsidian pitch with the gloss, body and fat nicotine foam of an imperial stout several percent heftier. Nose serious Baltic soy, prune, malt loaf, carob and liquorice. Slick with mellow pungency; prune, bramble, burnt malt loaf, high cocoa solid chocolate and liquorice thick darkness. Some Belgianesque plum and nectarine like yeast in the background. Puffed rice and mint humbug hints. Reminds me of De Molen. Impressive and rounded although I was expecting some US accented citrus hop to illuminate the edges of the darkness.

Great dark wintery beer. Smooth and drinkable with a great depth of flavor. Not super hoppy considering it's an IPA Lubiere (14110) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 15, 2013
A deep dark IPA with a thin dark brown head, very viscous. In aroma, dark chocolate with pungent resinous hops, dark fruits, surprisingly nice. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate with espresso coffee grind,, grassy resinous hops, orange pulp, alcohol warmth, excellent with blue cheese. OttBottShare Dec 15 2013. Serving: 22 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours about pitch black. Resinous, piney nose with slight burnt notes. Full bodied with a nice smoothness on the tongue. Solid roasted character with a heavy pine influence. Robust and flavorful. A pleasant surprise from White Birch. Brigadier (3710) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - NOV 17, 2013

Split with b3shine and tastybeer this was a fine black IPA picked up in the Cleveland area. I think it was solid enough for me to try another one or two of their beers when I verify the freshness. Maybe White Birch is an up and comer in the northeast.
Aroma / Appearance - A fluid black base slides gracefully into the sample sized glass. Slick legs like a mocha porter sweep downwards. Plums, malt, and oily resins warm the air like a very hoppy porter.
Flavor / Palate - Coffee, cinnamon, and a spicy edge are a little bit of unexpected pleasure. The dry transition of molasses emerges after about ten seconds. Finally comes a resiny finish from a balanced hop presence. From start to finish this is a very enjoyable black IPA. The fact it is also relatively affordable only makes it more appealing.
22oz bomber thanks to WillRunForBeer. Pours black with a small foamy mocha colored head. Aroma of mostly chocolate, coffee, and pine. Taste has a big piney hop presence, with lots of chocolate malt, bitter black coffee, and burnt toast.
