Served on tap by the brewer himself. Poured nearly black with a great head. Aromatic, with a load of very dark roasted malt, some sweet malt and a hint of charcoal. The hop load mainly comes into play in tasting where, unfortunately IMO, it mostly contributes a strong bitterness; a characteristic I think combines poorly with the burnt flavor found here.
Excellent smooth feel, with medium-full body and medium carbonation. maxwelldeux (4433) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - JAN 11, 2013
Draught. Pours a near-black color with a fairly small off-white head. Nose had a slight hoppiness to it, but was rather faint. Taste was also a tad muted - slight bitterness, tiny bit of roasting, but not overly flavorful. Still tasty, though. OldStyleCubFan (77) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - NOV 5, 2012
Easily the best beer I’ve had from White Street so far. Its a big beer...my guess is it easily over 7. Jet black with a bit Cascade(?) aroma and bitterness. No ’malt’ bitterness or ’burnt’ flavor which can be an issue on black ipas. My guess is they are using either a really high L crystal malt or maybe even sinamar to get that huge darkness without the sweetness. Very good beer.
