COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Freak is our San Francisco inspired hoppy monster. At 8.4% abv and who knows how many ibus, this beer is our shrine to the Hop. Absurd amounts of all the big West Coast hops give this beer its citrusy weedy nose and big dank hop flavor. Drinking this beer is like stuffing your face into a bag of fresh hops while eating a tangerine. We dry hop with 48lbs per batch or over 3lbs of hops per barrel. In following with the classic style of the West Coast double sugar plays a big part in creating this dry and minimally bitter double IPA. The Freak is particularly pintable for the style, so if you dare to enter we welcome you to the Freak Show.

Draft. Pours a medium, well retained, off white head, over a light amber (SRM 6) body......nose is heavy citrus with grapefruit, tangerine, light allium. dank all from the hops, slight floral honey, cereal, cracker from the malts, balance to the hops.......taste is mildly sweet, with floral tones, mild hints of toffee/caramel, citrus tones, pine resin, finishing with a lingering moderate bitterness.....mouth feel, medium body, alcohol warmth present, light carbonation. This fall into the style as a typical I/DIPA except the bitterness is a bit low for the style. BJCP 7/3/14/4/7

Ernest (7512) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 13, 2017
Bottle (Jan 11, 2017 bottling). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is medium to dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cookie), moderately hoppy (apricot, flowers, grapefruit, melon, guava), lightly yeasty (dough), with notes of shallot and plastic. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety/watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Hard to believe its 100 IBU, because if anything this could use more bitterness to temper the sugary sweetness. Not that its fatiguingly sweet, its actually balanced ok for the style, but yeah...it really could use more bitterness or less sweetness. The aroma is close to being nice; the fruity hop character is varied and attractive, but things like onions and plastic nearly ruin it.

Draft at Churchkey. Medium golden, clear and bright, soft foamy head, rings of lacing. Incredibly smooth for an IIPA. Aroma comes on soft, mostly hops, mildly dank. Taste comes in a lot fuller, but not too much. Malts still shine through this with some nice toffee flavors. Very smooth.

Beaver (1734) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - FEB 11, 2017
500ml bottle, bottled on 1/11/17. Pours clear straw gold with a big fluffy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet malts with lots of fruity resiny piney hops.

The flavor is some sweet bready malt with lots of fruity, resiny, spicy hops and some alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a very nice well balanced DIPA.

Pours light copper work a thin white head leaving lacking down the glass. Citrusy hops dominate in aroma and flavor. Just enough malt sweetness to stand up to the hops. Clean and crisp. Lingering resinous bitterness. Good light double ipa.
