COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our first Valentines Day Beer, V is 6.5% abv and fermented with 130 lbs of raspberry and cacao nibs roasted by the French Broad Chocolate Lounge. It is truly a beer for the romantic with interwoven aromas of raspberry and chocolate. With a crisp and dry finish, this fruit forward beer is not overly sweet. Perfect for a dessert pairing.

At brewery. Pours ruby-brown, dark, and with a foamy but light beige head. Nose shows lots of the raspberry and dark malts as well as some chocolate hints. Taste is sweet raspberry and dark bread at first, but the chocolate comes through slowly and with a nice bitterness. Finishes less sweet than expected, in a good way.

Draft at Salud. Dark brown color, thin light beige head. Aroma of chocolate covered raspberries. Taste starts sweet then earthy cocoa powder and fruit. Saison must be hiding.

Keg at the brewpub, 17/02/15. Very dark mahogany brown with a decent tan covering. Nose is bitter fruit, light spice, red berry, wooded notes, nutty aroma, light chocolate. Taste comprises rich red berry vibes, light toffee, funk, spice, damp hay, light cocoa rub. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent dark saison.

On tap at Wicked Weed. Chocolate raspberry aroma with roasty hints. Taste of smoke, chocolate, and raspberry. Pretty nice.

Keg @ Wicked Weed. Deep reddish brown with a small head. Nose is full of jammy tart raspberry. Some chocolate and cocoa. Woody funk. Taste is pretty dry. Roasted malt, ash. Pepper with just a bit of juicy raspberry on the end. Medium body, soft carb.

Pours dark brown with a fine-bubbled buff head. Aroma is fruity with a malt undertone. Flavor is seriously raspberry, not much else. Texture is thin for a beer and not very fizzy. Still, I love raspberry, so its passable.

4oz on tap at the downstairs taproom. I asked the bartender version which version this was, and he said theyd never done a sour version of this beer... So mystery solved, I guess Ill rate this entry. Labeled 6.8%... 23 IBU. This taster has an actual (beautiful little) raspberry attached to it. Wow. Normally Im not a fan of fruit attached to glasses, but Im attracted to this right now. Clearish brown, slight red color, sort of translucent. Thin ring of off-white head. Fantastic raspberry aroma, perfect mix of cocoa in there too. Wonderful bigger natural fruit raspberry taste, I love it (and I havent even bit into the raspberry yet (when I finally did bite into the raspberry, it definitely distracted from the natural balance that this beer features -- would request no fruit next time...)). Medium plus body. Smooth, kind of crisp, light carbonation. Mild slick, light dry in the finish. Moderate bitter taste, lighter sweet, nice mild tartness... A lot better of a balance than my local example of this style, MadTrees Rub. Cacao. Very fun raspberry stout. A great attempt at the style.

On tap at WW. Dark brown pour with a tan head. Faint raspberry aromas. Raspberry up front fades to chocolate and Belgian yeast notes. Mild sourness with a good body and mouthfeel.

Tap at Funkatorium. Not their best effort. So wanted to love it - Saison with chocolate and raspberries. Sounds perfect. Pours a dark brown with a porter-like weight. Good at first- seemed to be a good balance between tart raspberry and bitter cocoa nibs but got strange as it warmed up. Flavors just didnt play nicely together. Dry and off in the finish. Saison notes subtle. Somewhat strange. Disappointing. But still unique.

Black pour with creamy off white head and lace. Aroma is raspberry forward and then a touch of chocolate. Flavor is slightly tart raspberries and a nice light touch of chocolate. Very dry tart finish. Medium/ light bodied with slightly aggressive carbonation. A darkly refreshing beer
