Centuries ago, saisons were brewed with what a farmer had on hand to give flavor and alcohol to a healthy drink for his or her farmhands to drink while they worked. This ale is brewed with jicama root and parsnips in the mashing process, then we added ginger root and beets to the end of the boiling process. All of this leads to a spicy and refreshing ale.

Draft from the brewery. One of the few ho-hum beers Ive had at WW. Pours a mostly clear gold. Pretty standard saison, a little on the sweet and corny side. Not sure how the root vegetables are supposed to add anything of value.

Multiple tap-pours at Wicked Weed. Gorgeous beer through and through - low haze golden with healthy meringue foam. Rustic pale graininess in the nose with subtle but integrated spices and earthy notes from the adjuncts. Flavor is outstanding - fully integrated root vegetables and mild ginger bite. It overall feels like an exercise in crisp pale malt flavors and grassy hop balance. Nothing stands out as clearly identifiable on the adjunct side. It is just a great saison, and a true one at that.

Draft to mini-snifter at the Funkatorium. Looks solid; a mostly transparent gold with white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of saison yeast alongside soft notes of ginger and beet. Tastes like it smells with a slightly (vegetal) bitter medium light-bodied mouthfeel. Okay.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2016 On tap at brewpub. Spicy herbal aroma. I feel like I can taste the parsnip. Very spicy taste with a dry finish. Tastier than I thought it would be.

Draught at brewery. Super light. Not sure about the presence of parsnip and jicama. Light saison overall.
