Test vom 19.1.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,8,8,8,12,9 - 8,70

September 2008: Wickuler pils has been a supermarket beer in Germany for a long long time (although it was available on tap in its local area. It used to be brewed in Wuppertal and the brewery was taken over by Grolsh I believe, it is now owned by the Oetker Group and brewed in Dortmund. Green 0.5 litre bottle, well in date, poured into two tumblers. Very pale, even for a german lager/pilsner, good white head that tried to stay the distance. Although it was a hot afternoon when I reviewed this it wasn’t your normal refreshing taste of its style, more dry and metalic, not too good really. The mouthfeel was watery and that metalic feel wouldn’t go away. I don’t remember it being a world beater, but I thought it was better than it is today. I suppose moving it from its original home hasn’t helped.

50 cl. bottle @ home // thx Fré for this one // clear bland yellow with a white head // smells like aluminium & maybe some grains // taste is metallic, synthetic, grains, hay, touch sweetness, sweet grains, vegetables, aluminium, grass bitterness in the finish, cold water // body is light, bland, close to watery, metallic // your average soulless pale lager / macro pilsner thing, oddly strongly metallic (mainly aluminium) though

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2016 Updated rating. Bottle @ holiday weekend in Germany. Clear yellow golden color, medium sized white head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is quite refreshing, some malts, hops and a bit hayish. Taste malts, hay, light bitter hops, light bitter. Decently refreshing.

Very pale yellow colour, decent white head. Smells malts, grains, sweet, hay. Tastes very malty, sweet and bitter in a not nice way. Okay carbo, thin body.

Bottle 33cl, a clear yellow beer with good head. nose is very hopy, aroma is bitter, hopy on grass and pepper side, malty side is nice too with good sweetness, malt and grain notes. Finish has a good bitterness quality as well as duration. Good pilsner.

Yay, I really didn’t try this! Eh, right, Café Wagner, Jena. Generally aroma free, maybe some malt. Taste-wise it’s water flavored with something bitterish, maybe herbal. Let’s call that hops. Nothing else. Meh, cheap.

Hermod (8348) - Vantaa, FINLAND - APR 5, 2012
50cl bottle. Poured golden with a frothy white head that quickly disappeared. Aroma is grassy hoppy and weak malty. Flavor is sweet malt, grassy hops and a biting bitter finish. Quite good pilsener, crisp, nice mouthfeel, Thin body though.
