COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first beer Kurt and Rob ever brewed. This traditional Dusseldorf ale translates to “old” and is the perfect marriage of dry malty smoothness and hop bitterness.

Decent alt , but not earthshaking, it was part of a sampler tray I had at the brewpub. Mildly bitter, with a minimal nose, warm golden color, and fairly smooth palate.

Well done for the style, it's just not that great of a style. So the beer is amber and great looking and cleanly made, but doesn't taste all that fullfillling. widmer portland. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I’ve had this before, in the 90s so technically this is a re-rate. Draught at the brewery. Golden-amber. Thin head. Some light bubble gum phenols...not a characteristic of Uerige yeast. On the palate, thin, flabby and again bubblegum. No way this tasted like this in 1984, not with that yeast. ☹️

On tap at Widmer, pours a clear copper with a medium beige head. Aroma is subtle, with toasted biscuity malt and some light nuttiness. Flavour is along the same lines, with toasted nuts, bready malt and a hint of caramel. Restrained but clean and decently brewed, but very weak and uninspiring.

Draft. Pours golden amber with a white head. Sweet and light toasted bready malty notes, very mild bitterness, and a bit too much sweetness lingering through the finish. Not bad.

On draught at Belmont Station for King’s Day Celebration. 1984 edition for 30th anniversary. Clear amber color. Aroma is corn, grass, and sweet malt. Taste is corn, caramel malt, lightly bitter floral and grassy hops. Nicely balanced sweetness and bitter hops. Good altbier.

Poured this 2014 limited 22oz silk screen bottle into a Widmer snifter. It pours a clear mahogany with a tan head that leaves some lacing on the glass. Subtle notes of nutmeg, anise, figs, a little yeast and sweet grains. Obviously a complex malt bill. I get a lot of cereal grain in the flavor and while the flavors are similar to the aroma they are even more subtle. Perfect hop character with a dry finish; this is Widmer’s best beer.

On tap at Widmer pub. Darker orange appearance with no cloudiness. Faint aroma and appealing palate.

Poured from a draft into a goblet at South Park Abbey in San Diego, Calif. Tough to see the color in the dark, but it appeared to be flat out caramel. About a finger of head when I got it. Light white lacing that went away pretty quickly. Sporadic and light film on the sides. Smelled caramel malts first. Seemed to be pretty nutty. Heavy on the malts. Tasted a bit like a Gordon Biersch I had before, but I can’t put my finger on it. Caramel, nutty and roasty, but a good balance. Full-to-medium body. Average carbonation. Long-lasting smooth finish. Good drinkability. Creamy texture. Just a good beer overall. Smooth and consistent all-around.

Haven’t had this in a long time. Really good summer BBQ beer. Light and a little thin make it really sessionable. Slight coffee and nutty taste to it. Pretty brown color too.

Draft at the brewpub. Clear amber, white head. Aroma of caramel malt. Taste of caramel with a smoky edge. Exactly on style.
