Pouers an amber colour. Aromas of pine and citrus, similar flavours. Nice fresh green notes. Pretty good.

Bottle from the Arden BevMo. Pours light amber with a slight head. Aroma is lightly malty. Med body. Flavor is a light brown sugar with a fair amount of earthy bitter. A little fruity. Don’t think it’s banana ester tho. I think the main aspect, and it is strong in the finish, is the bitter. Decent beer.

Herbs, candied caramel and sugared nuts on the aroma. Light copper appearance with no foam. Flavors of metallic caramel, sugared nuts and mild hops dominate the flavor. There are some undertones of toffee, grains and burnt sugar. Overall, a basic yet, unique ale to start off the spring. I’d give this a B- rating.

12oz bottle. Looks light with a white head. Aroma of pale malts and some floral hops. Flavor about the same. Average to light texture. A decent beer for the style.

Draft. Poured a clear bronze color with a small white head. Aroma was thin malts, with slightly more substantial hop notes. Flavor was pretty boring, light sweet malts, with light hops. Drinkable, but not my favorite California Common out there.

Fratto (2845) - Arlington, Texas, USA - MAR 23, 2013
Bottle from Kroger. Medium orange pour with a white head. Aroma is grassy, malty, and almost green beans. Taste is light, crisp, more slight veggies, and a creamy finish.

Pour is a clear amber with a white head. Aroma is a slight caramel malt with a bit of oily hop. Flavor is a minor malt and very little hop. Finish is a clean tasting caramel malt but not much else. An ok steam beer but I don’t have enough of this style to compare this too anything else.

Tap at Penn social in DC. Clear amber. Weak to near no head. Nose is sugar, toffee, caramel popcorn. Taste is very metallic, harsh tinny flavor, some tannic bitterness. Astringent, chemical palate. Yuck.

JFGrind (2047) - Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 20, 2013
Grainy cabbage aroma, dark tan bodied with frothy head. Light on hops, bread, citrus and earthy flavors come together in a smooth, quaffable California Common. Adequate Spring seasonal from Widmer just needs a bit more UMPF.

Sampled on 3/18/2013. This California Common/Steam beer pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head with good lacing. The aroma is bready and caramel, with some fruit and perhaps some hoppiness. A medium bodied California Common. The malts are caramel, bready and sweet. The hops are grapefruity and citrusy. Its quite hoppy for a steam beer, perhaps the Pacific Northwest treatment of the style. Decent carbonation. It does seem to be missing that full mouthfeel one usually has in a steam beer, but it makes up for that with a very nice hop profile. Nice session beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
