3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Widmer Brothers Nelson Imperial Ale. My first pour revealed a clear, bright gold appearance, with a sizable, long-lasting foamy white head that leaves great lacing on an English tulip pint glass. A second pour from the 22 oz. bottle produced a darker and hazy glass. There’s no surprise that this beer features a generous floral hop aroma with some orange citrus and alcohol peeking through. I also confirmed the expected big malt character to this beer, which shines through from palate entry to the long-lasting finish. The sticky sweet palate entry ultimately yields to a dry and quite drinkable beer with a mid-palate flavor profile that reveals honeysuckle, cantaloupe and pineapple. There’s a strong, but far from overpowering hoppy and alcohol dryness in the finish. From my perspective, many other beers in this category overload the finishing hops, but I found this double IPA well-balanced and enjoyable; and, there’s really very little indication of the 8.6% ABV unless you read the label. Good.
Bottle (as Nelson Imperial IPA) from biershop.com. Pours amber with a small white head. Intense aroma of fresh hop, fruit, zest and bread. Medium sweetness, developing bitterness. Medium body, a sticky texture, low carbonation. Finish has more lasting bitterness, somewhat dry. A decent brew. alexsdad06 (10434) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 29, 2016
Bottle from notes. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have pale toasted malts, grapefruit citrus, some resiny hops, mild to moderate bitterness, decent. nybol (2201) - DENMARK - FEB 18, 2016
Med en IIPA forventer jeg en masse af del hele. Det fik jeg også, masser af humle og blomsteragtige smage. Fin øl. Jorn69 (3157) - Ängelholm, SWEDEN - FEB 12, 2016
UPDATED: MAR 5, 2016 Backlog, early amateur rating! Sample @ Malmö Öl & Whisky Festival 20130420. Hoppy and citrusy with grapefruits. JohnGalt1 (1721) - Boise, Idaho, USA - NOV 4, 2015
foamy 1" head... good retention and lace... the brew is a polished orange.
Nose is nice fruity hoppiness... tropical and citrus... a tad floral.. good malt backbone with touches of toast.
Flavor pretty much mirrors the aroma with some mango and grapefruit zest thrown into the mix.. a tad maltier than I normally like, but it is certainly within style and never is "sweet".. finishes a bit pithy. Medium body for the style and.. carbonation may be a tad light, but it lends to a lush mouthfeel.
Pretty good... and a good value at only about $2/bottle.

From 355ml bottle. Little unclear orange color with off white head. Hoppy and malty aroma, citrusy fruity, grapefruit, tropical fruits, caramel. Sweet and bitter taste. Medium oily body with soft carbonation. jamaty (2146) - Madrid, SPAIN - JUN 5, 2015
Color moscatel, apenas espuma. Aroma marcado, lupulado. Uva también. En boca potente, licórica. Bien equilibrada con dulce uva y amargor notable al final sin perder el dulzor. Buen punto de gas que realza el conjunto. Notable. Bebum (993) - Massachusetts, USA - MAY 25, 2015
Amber, clear initially but turning hazy, tall and loose head.
Medium body, full flavored, silky texture, hot, rich, mouthfeel, long but disappointing finish.
Bitter, sweet, goodenough acidity,
Very malty, barley candy, alcoholic flavors, bitter but not very flavorful hops.
Many good qualities, would be better with more aromatic hops.

As Nelson Imperial IPA! Pours hazy orange yellow with a small creamy head. Smell has strong fruity hops, caramel and herbs. Starts strong hoppy, very herbal, fruity with some grapes. Finish is fruity with grapes, orange and a hint of pear, but also very herbal and slight warming. Nice one!
Bottled. Slightly hazy amber colour with a mediumsized off-white head that leaves lace. Aroma is sweet fruits, some sweet malts as well as a stinging tone from the alcohol. Flavour is tropical fruit juice with some gluelike sweetness (alcohol + hop in the mix probably gives this kind of not too pleasant gluelike sweetish notes). Not all too bitter in the finish, but does lack something to balance the alcohol up.
