4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Perfectly smooth, strong, silky, and sweet. Easily Widmer Brothers’ best beer.
Poured into a perfect pint.
3.5 A: Black color. Two fingers of frothy light brown head. Retention is about average and a decent amount of lacing is left.
3.25 S: Roasted barley, tangy lactose, licorice. Some caramel, molasses, and maybe a note of coffee.
3.0 T: I’m not too crazy about the taste. It’s a little too roasty or perhaps not sweet enough. The roast clashes with the lactose. It’s not bad, just not what I want in the style. Roast, lactose, molasses, caramel. Less licorice than in the nose, but still some. Not much coffee either.
3.25 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. A little creamy, but I want more. Roasty aftertaste.
3.0 D: Again, it’s okay, just not attuned to my preferences.

"I miss the old Widmer winter seasonal, snow plow (kinda sorta a 5% version of this beer). The alcohol makes the body a little more robust but not quite as epically smooth as the old Standby. Milk chocolate and roast abound, though, and for $5, a good deal too." FROTHINGSLOSH (7796) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 8, 2014
From the April 2014 3R6P gathering. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized foamy brown head that left decent lacing. The aroma was lactose, a hint of vanilla and toasty malts. The flavor was bitter vanilla, lactose, roasty malts and floral hops. Medium length bitter finish of vanilla and lactose. Medium body. Small head quickly disappeared. Dark. Roasted, dark chocolate coffee smell and taste. Nice mouthfeel. Low bitterness, long lasting aftertaste. From bottle dated 9/11/12 had on 12/2/12.

Pours tar black with a creamy tan had. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and lactose. Sweet flavor with milk, cocoa, dark fruit, and roasted malt, Very enjoyable beer.

Not much for aroma here other than typical stout notes. Flavor has a bit of bitterness instead of sweetness. It does have some smoothness to the mouthfeel. fluffy (2472) - St Petersburg, Florida, USA - JAN 13, 2014
im not getting as much sweetness with this one as i do other milk stouts, but its ok i guess. DocLock (10702) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 13, 2013
Bomber from Wegman’s. Pours jet black, thick, with a 2-finger frothy dark brown head. Nose is a nice medley of roasted dark malts, cacao, mild dark fruit. Tastes roasty, with big dark malt flavor up front, some cacao, earthy woody notes at mid-palate, and mild hops and figgy fruit late. The mouthfeel on this is dense and complex, with a very smooth finish. This one would pair well with any red meat or chocolate dessert. strongpieman (1651) - Mount Airy, Maryland, USA - AUG 16, 2013
Bottle. Overall very nice stout, lots of coffee and chocolate flavors, roasted aroma, full body. A little sweet, would definitely do again. jbruner (4747) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - AUG 14, 2013
Pours a thick black on tap with nice tab head and good lacing. Sons of coffee and roasted malts with a slight lactose sweetness. Taste is bitter coffee with a hint of toasted toffee and a silky finish. Nicely done.
