2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
A loose looking brown body that had a quickly fading brown head. Aroma had a nice roasted malts. Mainly a medium roast coffee note and some dark chocolate. No real oatmeal quality, but there was a secondary sweetness to it. Flavor was mild but nice and balanced mild roasted coffee and smooth bittersweet chocolate. A light body with a finish that reminded me of 2% milk. Okay, could have been more.
Pours a clear brown body with a small fizzy beige head that fell to a thin ring. The nose is pretty nice, chocolate malt, light roast, some sweetness from the oatmeal, and some fudgecake like notes. The flavor is a little weird. There’s a little chocolate malt, but underlying it is an almost menthol or spearmint like note that comes out before the sweetness from the oatmeal emerges on the finish. Finishes with a bit of light bitterness and hazelnut like sweetness that lingers for quite a long time. Lighter bodied with fizzy prickly carbonation. I really wanted to like this, but I just can’t get into this one. The weird sweetness from the oatmeal just doesn’t work in here AdamGott (386) - Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA - DEC 9, 2012
Pour is similar to a semi-flat root beer - light aromas of caramel and molasses - flavors of dark sugar and alcohol with a lingering brown sugar. I really wanted to like this one more and I may be drinking it too cold. wlajwl (6948) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - DEC 7, 2012
Aroma is grainy malts and a hint of spices. The flavor is malts, fruit, very mild sweetness and a smooth finish. arrogantb (1402) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 22, 2012
22oz bottle dated February 2012 that I picked up for $1.79, not bad. Standard black-brown appearance, filmy head. Smells good, oaty, with a sort of sweet aroma like a dessert that I cannot place> .Flavor is a touch of chocolate followed by that sweetness that is good but hard to place. Overall this is not too bad but not something I will re-visit.

Pour is a dark brown with a average tan head. Aroma isa ok roasted malt with some chocolaty sweetness. Flavor has no real oatmeal roastyness. It more sweet cocoa with some nuttyness. Thin mouthfeel for a porter. It’s ok nothing too great or too poor.

I was *very* disappointed with this beer. Widmer Brothers usually delivers a decent drinking experience (if a bit weird--I’m looking at you, Marionberry Hibiscus Gose), but this was not the case. Looks good enough, dark and appealing, but the usual oatmeal porter flavors are fouled by a sour, bitter note that dominates the flavor. I got two at the store, so I know it wasn’t just a bad bottle. Not good. Gription79 (2891) - Bountiful, Utah, USA - SEP 27, 2012
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. There is a noticeable sour note. Soft note of chocolate, the roasted malts are subtle. Not very interesting and showing signs of oxidization. Aml42000 (622) - Washington, USA - SEP 21, 2012
Pleasant oatmeal porter. The nose is a bit subdued, but offers some lightly roasted malty aromatics. Transparent dark brown with a thin white head. High carbonation and some earthy flavors mixed with hints of chocolate. A malty take on porter. 3fourths (9351) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 13, 2012
bottle. filtered coffee brown body with a small light tan head and little retention. standard roast / chocolate / coffee malt aroma with touches of cookie batter / dough and oatmeal and green / mossy / grassy American hops. medium-light body thins considerably on the back, it’s surprisingly watery and thin with little malt support or carbonation froth to hold it together. watered-down chocolate malt and oatmeal flavor with mildly grassy hop flavor and medium-low bitterness. as it warms and opens there’s more of an unpleasant oxidized malt / sherry / alcohol note at play. lifeless and pointless. par for the course for Widmer. Draft at bull run tap house. Pours coca cola brown with a half inch of khaki foam. Not much on the nose. Slight hints of cocoa and malt on the tongue. Finishes a bit dry. Not getting much evidence of the oatmeal. Has kind of a thin mouthfeel. Solid for style.
