2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottled. This was just okay for me. A little thin in the body and not a noticeable hop, but some nice bready / toasty flavors.
Originally rated on 9/22/08. It poured a deep amber body with very little carbonation that led to a thin, rapidly shrinking head. Aroma of roasted malts, flavor also of roasted malts and toffee, sweet with a dry hop bite aftertaste. Overall it is just one step above the average marzen. thedm (6275) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - JUN 12, 2016
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy white colored bubbles that were and left behind a typically carbonated transparent golden brown orange colored body and a good lacing. The mild aroma was candy. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a medium caramel hop aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of velvety smoothness sweet candy caramel and hops. A decent one that I would consider drinking again. hopdog (12816) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 17, 2016
12oz bottle. Poured an amber color with an off white head. Caramel, some bread and malty. cbfobes (2885) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - NOV 26, 2015
Poured from bottle, pours a clear amber copper with an off white head, aroma has a hint of caramel and sweetness and the flavor is pretty much the same, malt and caramel, meh. JohnGalt1 (1721) - Boise, Idaho, USA - NOV 19, 2015
1" head with nice lacing, brew is amber but when held to a light it glows like a stop light.
Aroma is toasty/biscuit malts with slight floral hops and only subtle yeasty fruitiness... fairly clean really.
Toasty malts up front move into medicinal/spicy hops with a slightly fruity finish.. dry minerally finish.. body is medium with smooth but above average carbonation... way cleaner than most American Ambers.
Overall, if I had to pick a style for this, I would call it a good attempt at an Altbier over an American Amber... that said, I am going to review it on its merits, but NOT as an American Amber.

Draft sampler at Partisan DC. Dark copper with small offwhite head. Caramel malt, grains, damp earth, moldy bread. Not a fan. Maverick34 (3299) - New York, USA - SEP 18, 2015
Poured a bright clear amber. Your standard malts and grains but unremarkable otherwise Capa (3330) - Kitsap, Washington, USA - SEP 18, 2015
Deep copper with a white head. Sweet malty note, light earth, and very light bitterness. Decent. Bif (2280) - St. Charles, Missouri, USA - AUG 29, 2015
On tap. Served an amber color with a head that fades to bits of lacing. Aroma of malt sweetness, bit of caramel and grain. Taste of malt sweetness and caramel with a touch of grain and citrus. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Moderate body, smooth but a bit short on malt character. DocLock (10834) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 20, 2015
Bottle from Whole Foods PM. Pours hazy brown, tan head. Nose is munich malt, some earty and brown sugar. Tastes like a marzen.
