2013.03.09 - Widmer Brothers Old Embalmer '12 - 22oz (?) bottle in pint glass. 2012 Vintage.
Aroma: very nice balance of hops and sweetness.
Appearance: Pours around 14 on SRM scale. Fairly light for barley wine, lighter than Newcastle Brown maybe. Very vigorous head/carbonation, 1-2 inch head, sticky white.
Taste: very nice. I don't even know how to describe. Good balance of hops and malty sweetness. I pretty much slammed this bottle, I'm reviewing as there is literally one drink left. Very tasty, good hop flavor without hops in your face.

Bottle 65cl @ Konttori. ’12, bottled 18.7.2012. Pours clear copper, off white head. Sweet malty, molasses aroma. Smooth, some hops bitterness. Very drinkable. Sham (1844) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 10, 2005
Cloudy copper with a small head and big lacing. Rich malt aromas. Caramel, biscuits and toasted malts. Almost like fresh wort as it doesn’t seem too hoppy in the nose. Warming up a little, I find some floral and fruity hops. Raisins and sherry as well. Big toasted malts in the flavors. Biscuits as well. Bitter hops are bursting along with floral hops. Alcohol is warming you up well. Big malts in the finish as well as alcohol. I swear this is an imperial version of Alpenhorn.

Pours clear deep gold with copper core and nice off white head. The mild aroma has notes of dark fruitiness, some sweet malts and floral hops. The taste is very much to English barleywine style to me with rich chewy dark fruity esters coming from prunes, cherries and ripe plums. It slowly takes on sweet malts and a hint of caramelization. Nice brew that is right on the mark now.

Bottle (’12) from the Vacaville BevMo. Pours ruddy copper with a 3 finger light beige creamy head. Aroma is earthy/floral over a substantial roast malt. Near full bodied. Flavor is very earthy, arguably floral, maybe a hint of citrus? maybe not. It’s quite balanced. Heat is detectable in the gullet - unless that light burn is from hop. Finishes on the bitter side for me, but arguably less than dry. Nice drink. Could sub for a DIPA when fresh.

22 oz bottle - pours tawny red with medium-full tan-white head, very creamy, very lasting, very pretty lacing. Very. I get malts, dates, and some brighter berry fruits on the nose mixed in with citrus and pine. Tastes of berry, plums, grain, with a pleasing hoppy finish. Leaves you wanting more, no burn at 10+. Medium to full bodied, nicely done. Chudwick (3205) - Taylor Mill, Kentucky, USA - SEP 22, 2012
Bottle - pours clear caramel with offwhite head. Pine nose. Flavor adds grapefruit, alcohol and perhaps rye. Dry finish. Moderate to high bitterness. Thin body and fairly complex. portableparty (2350) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - OCT 15, 2012
2012 22 oz. bottle. Pours a deep red amber with a large sudsy khaki head that slowly resides to a soapy film and lacing. Aroma is sweet and bitter with fruity floral hops and caramel malt. Taste again shows a sweet bitterness which includes floral fruity hops and toasty caramel malt and a gentle spice in the finish. Palate is full and slick with a warm drying finish. Pretty enjoyable Barley Wine that has a nice sweet fruity flavor that stands out. DuffMan (10423) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 1, 2013
Bottle, shared by Grippitis. Lovely deep red-orange hue. Sweet malty aroma, very much a barley wine on the nose! Love this aroma! Sweet chewy caramel maltiness with nice plummy fruit accents and a hoppy bite in the finish. Tasty. slang (654) - Columbia, South Carolina, USA - FEB 4, 2013
bomber. Light brown, minimal head, astringent nose of toasted sugars & a hint of herbs. Sweet semi-full bodied mouthfeel. Alcohol is strong. Long lasting sticky palate.
