Widmer Brothers Reserve Vanilla Barrel Aged Brrrbon

RATINGS: 41   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.61/5   SEASONAL: Winter   IBU: 40   EST. CALORIES: 321   ABV: 10.7%
Our brewers added fresh whole vanilla beans to a few select barrels of our Barrel-Aged Brrrbon 13, an imperial version of our Brrr Seasonal Ale aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels, for this limited edition brew. The addition of vanilla beans heightens the vanilla character imparted by the barrels, and adds a delicious layer of complexity to the beers oak and caramel character, making for a smooth warmer perfect for the season.

MALTS: Pale, Caramel, Carapils, Dark Chocolate
HOPS: Alchemy, Simcoe, Cascade

With Z, pours a brown birch colored color with a small head. Nose is full of bourbon with vanilla in the background. Taste is very smooth with nice sweet bourbon notes mixed with vanilla bean and oak. Finish is very smooth, sweet and ends on the same tasting notes with a moderately long finish. Quaff Score 8 / 10

A very good variation on their bourbon barrel beer. Pours a muddy brown with little head. Smells of vanilla and bourbon. Taste is bourbon and vanilla upfront, with some mint and a slightly empty finish. A lot upfront, not as much in the backend. Had in the bottle at Piachi Pub and Pizzaria.

Not bad for the price, not enough bourbon and vail though...solid but will not repeat, way too many beers to be had.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. The aroma is filled with bourbon, burnt sugar, fruity alcohol, toffee. The flavor is sweet vanilla, caramelized sugar, oak. The high ABV is warming. Finishes dry.

Taster at Jungle Jims Barrel-Aged Beer Bash 2015. Mildly hazy orange amber color. Thin off-white kind of bubbly head, few bits of lace. Bigger citrusy hop up front in the nose, thats kind of surprising. West-coast DIPA level of citrusy hop, kind of piney and spicy, wasnt expecting that at all. Just a touch of vanilla on the backend, more noticeable as it warms. Bigger bitterness, mild to moderate sweet taste, kind of dry. Bigger body. Kind of soft tingly sort of crisp lighter carbonation, light slick mouthfeel but drying in the finish. Interesting stuff. Surprisingly hoppy, especially for a 2013 vintage (indicated). Reminds me of some bad DIPAs Ive tried. Would have probably gotten better if I gave it time to warm.

Keg at the taproom in PDX, 08/11/14. Murky amber with a moderate beige covering. Nose is bourbon forward, coconut, rich dark fruits, toffee. Taste comprises more coconut, BA effect, bourbonic licks, toffee, spice, light booze, dates, dark fruits. Medium + body, fine carbonation, lightly warming alcohol in the close. Decent BA American Strong.
