Limited Release #4. Spring 2011. Ale brew with huskless malt and Belgian candy sugar. Galaxy Hopped Barleywine is a new take on an old favorite. This beer pours a dark crimson, almost mahogany color. The yeast & galaxy hops deliver a big bang of red and yellow fruit aromatics like banana, pineapple, cherry, and strawberry. The experience begins with a taste of toffee and darkened sweet caramel overlaid on subtle tones of vanilla. All to be punctuated by the floral and citrus dry hop character.

Nice strong 1 inch thick head of fine, light tan bubbles. Strong malty aroma with caramel, mint, roasted grains and some fruit punch kind of like it likens to in the description. Color is a hazy dark brown. Nice smooth malts up front with lots more caramel, toffee, roasted grains and some tea leaves and herbal hops flavors late swallow. The large malt content balances out the bitterness nicely. Lingering herbal bitterness late finish that is a little bit dry and chalky. This brew says it was relesed in spring of 2011. First time seeing this was spring 2012. The hops appear to have diminished over the past year but still a very solid barleywine.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle. The beer pours an amber color with a white head. The aroma is quite hoppy, with a lot of pine and orange citrus notes, as well as quite a bit of toffee and caramel malt. The flavor is similar, with the pine and orange citrus notes from the hops coming through nicely. There is also a little bit of sweetness from the caramel malt, and the bitterness is fairly low. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

The aroma holds resinous hops and dry caramel up front with undertones of herbs, spices, flowers, bread, nuts, woodsy citrus and raisins. The flavour is light to medium sweet, light to medium bitter and tiny acidic with notes of caramel, nuts, bread, resin, wood, flowers, grass, herbs, spices and some fruits. The mouthfeel is clean and soft with a light to medium carbonation. Light fiery, balanced hoppy and malty finish. Medium bodied.

Limited Release #4. Spring 2011. Bottle dated Mar14, 2011. Poured from 22 oz bottle after aging for a little more than a year. Fairly clear, orangish dark Brown with 1 finger tan head and good lacing. Both lacing and head disappear as the beer warms. Aroma of thick caramelized malts, brown sugar, prunes, overripe strawberries, earth, pine and light grapefruit. Taste is hoppier with a bitter pine resin and softer citric flavors competing with the strong malt flavors of caramel and brown sugar along with dried fruits, dates, vanilla, oak, earthy and buttery flavors. Aftertaste is rather bitter. Sweetness comes out more as the beer warms. Call Although it's taste is not outstanding taste, I'm really enjoying this balanced barley wine as it warms. Full body and above-average carbonation work well together to provide a nice mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
