COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Limited Release #4. Spring 2011. Ale brew with huskless malt and Belgian candy sugar. Galaxy Hopped Barleywine is a new take on an old favorite. This beer pours a dark crimson, almost mahogany color. The yeast & galaxy hops deliver a big bang of red and yellow fruit aromatics like banana, pineapple, cherry, and strawberry. The experience begins with a taste of toffee and darkened sweet caramel overlaid on subtle tones of vanilla. All to be punctuated by the floral and citrus dry hop character.

Pours a dark hazy brown colour with a short white head. The aroma is wicked, burnt sugar, molasses, dark chocolate, pine, it’s really good. The flavour is candied fruit, chocolate, orange rind, bitter hop finish. The mouth feel is slick. All and all very enjoyable but I kind of wish I’d let it age a little longer.

22oz bottle: pours a clear deep mahogany with a spotty-lacing froth of off-white head. Has a lightly sweet toasty caramel malty nose with some fresh piny hoppiness and a touch of light fruits. Starts with pretty good fullness and sweet caramel maltiness with nice balance of hoppy bitterness before a drier bittersweet finish that hides the alcohol well. A pretty true to style and enjoyable American-style barley wine.

(draft @ Tap and Mallet - Rochester, NY) Dark brown pour with a thick and lasting tan head. Big fruit and hop aroma along with some mild malt notes. Flavor starts with a blast of sweet fruit followed immediately by a bitter and peppery hop flavor. Some light sweetness and fruity notes at the end with a bitter and lingering aftertaste.

Mouthfeel smooth, sticky. Light dabs of lacing and a light syrupy film. Tastes of candied fruit, sweet but not overly. Light chocolate sneaks into toward finish. Bitter snap in finish and bitter aftertaste. Mellow and warming. Small ABV apparency. Tasty but not too complex.
