Christmas tasting at the Kernel. Can’t remember who brought this because I was a bit trollied - but Cheers. Took awhile to catch up with this one. Hazy amber beer, little off white head. Light dry palate. Creamy caramel malt , sweetish. Lovely Galaxy hops. Sweet piney tropical fruits with pineapple and mango. Very nice!
Bottle. Dark amber, thick tan head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of flowers > grass > pine. Taste has chocolate and coffee notes on top of the usual caramel. Very creative for a barleywine. Leighton (22820) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 4, 2011
UPDATED: DEC 25, 2011 Bottle shared at The Craft Beer Co., London. Pours clear ruby with a foamy, white head - lovely. Big, sweet nose, juicy hops, toffee. Great flavor, tons of sugar balanced by strong bitterness of earth and pine. Full bodied with average carbonation. Warm finish, toffee in abundance, some caramel and toasty malts. Very tasty. Update: Bottle at the Kernel Christmas tasting 2011. Thanks to Seth. Lightly cloudy, golden-brown with a fine, cream head. Big dark malt sweet bread nose, some pine and resins aroma. Big sweet flavor, more pine and resin, also brown sugar, big malts, some caramel. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish, sticky hop resins, some toasty sugars. Pretty thick and drinkable. Slightly cummy. Very good. 4.2 (Rated the same as last time without checking, so this is definitely my score for the beer.) mcberko (19869) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 4, 2011
Sampled on tap at SIB, pours dark amber / maroon with a beige head. Aroma of citrus hops, sour tropical fruits and caramel. Intensely hoppy flavour for barley wine (almost a sweet Imperial IPA), citrus hops, and sour tropical fruits further back. Nice depth, but I don’t think the hops mesh extraordinary well. Nevertheless, enjoyable.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2011 Bottle on Angs birthday. Toasty really more than anything else. Some toffee fruit some heat on finish. Its ok if a bit one dimensional. Finish grows. Yes a touch of toffee-ied fruit but just too toasty. Scopey (16277) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 6, 2011
Bottle at Ang’s birthday tasting. It pours deep amber, with a thick white head. The nose is leather, wood, dust, fruit cake, gingerbread and cinnamon. The taste is gingerbread, leather, resin, wood, boozy fruit, raisin, currant, fig, nutmeg, cinnamon, toffee and alcohol warmth. Full body and low carbonation. Well balanced and tasty. bhensonb (15974) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 5, 2011
Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours ruddy dark amber with a slight beige smear for head. Wow aromas of citrus/pine over light roast caramel. It’s smooth, thickly sweet and fairly balanced with floral/citrus. There’s even a bourbon vanilla aspect. Nicely done. Ratman197 (15628) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - OCT 14, 2011
Bomber poured a clear reddish brown with a lasting amber head. Aromas of citrus, carmel, earthiness, pine and light tangerine. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, grapefruit, candy sugar, light pine and light earthiness with a smooth lingering bitter finish. Tmoney99 (15130) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 30, 2011
Bottle. Poured clear reddish brown color with a moderate frothy off-white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate fruit, earthy and small caramel malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy fruit bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is a complex good beer.
