COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Limited Release #4. Spring 2011. Ale brew with huskless malt and Belgian candy sugar. Galaxy Hopped Barleywine is a new take on an old favorite. This beer pours a dark crimson, almost mahogany color. The yeast & galaxy hops deliver a big bang of red and yellow fruit aromatics like banana, pineapple, cherry, and strawberry. The experience begins with a taste of toffee and darkened sweet caramel overlaid on subtle tones of vanilla. All to be punctuated by the floral and citrus dry hop character.

Bottle thanks to Mike. Pours a dark copper color with a medium beige head. The aroma is sweet fruity hops and malts, some currants, pine. The flavor is a rich BW: sweet robust hops, pine and some toffee, lingering bitterness, vanilla, sweet and bitter. Very nice.

Pours a dark hazy brown colour with a short white head. The aroma is wicked, burnt sugar, molasses, dark chocolate, pine, it’s really good. The flavour is candied fruit, chocolate, orange rind, bitter hop finish. The mouth feel is slick. All and all very enjoyable but I kind of wish I’d let it age a little longer.

Let it warm up a bit and you’ll have a thick, sweet, fruity, and hoppy nectar. Very complex and nicely boozy. Finally impressed with Widmer.

Christmas tasting at the Kernel. Can’t remember who brought this because I was a bit trollied - but Cheers. Took awhile to catch up with this one. Hazy amber beer, little off white head. Light dry palate. Creamy caramel malt , sweetish. Lovely Galaxy hops. Sweet piney tropical fruits with pineapple and mango. Very nice!

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 3/14/2011. Pours very hazy dark ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big raisin, orange zest, pineapple, grapefruit, caramel, toast, toffee, candi sugar, biscuit, floral, grass, light pine, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and hop notes; with good strength. Taste of raisin, grapefruit, orange zest, pineapple, caramel, toast, toffee, floral, pine, grass, candi sugar, biscuit, and floral earthiness. Slight pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, citrus, caramel, toast, toffee, biscuit, floral, light pine, candi sugar, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance of malt and hop flavors; with a great hop/malt balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a moderately slick, smooth, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice barleywine style. All around good complexity and balance of malt and hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle, shared with Robbie. Tawny amber with a soft golden head. Sweet toffee malts, chewy, with a light kiss of fruity hops and moderate bitterness in balance. A really lovely barley wine.

22oz bomber. Deep reddish brown w offwhite head. Thick malty aroma w resiny notes of pungent hop and notes of toffee and raisin. Flavor is malty sweet but also resiny hoppy with lots of complexity - fruity esters, evergreen, toffee, hints of roasty malts. Mouthfeel is medium full and slippery with a somewhat aggressive bite of carbonation. Overall a tasty and well balanced brew.

Sampled at SIB. Pours mahogany with a small creamy head. Aroma of citrus hops, and sour tropical fruits. Flavour is very hop heavy, citrus, tropical fruits, backed with caramel sweetness. More like an IPA - which suits me down to the ground. Really nice.

Bottle. Dark copper. I’m not picking up a lot of aroma. Nice dry hopped flavour. Woody with a hint of spruce. Like a very dry IIPA.
