At a tasting. Comes dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma of malt, molasses, and rum. Taste is roasted malt, molasses, rum, and caramel. Nice to sip on.

Pours pretty dark brown with a 1/4 inch beige head. Lots of rum and treacle in the aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is massively treacle with rum and some citrus and arguably pear. It burns slightly. I’m thinking this massively flavorful ale will age well. Brilliant concoction.

Sample at Hal & Al’s. Pours a hazy brown color with a medium khaki head that recedes slowly. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and rum. Medium to full body with flavors of roast malt, oaky rum and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a rum and molasses aftertaste. Decent overall.

On draught at Widmer’s new Brewery and Pub 3/29/14. Barrel strength version, at 12% ABV. Opaque amber brown color. Aroma is dark rum and molasses. Taste is black strap molasses, with touches of rum and salted caramel. Viscous and smooth.

Bomber bought at Super 1 in CDA, ID. Pours murky brownish-orange with a medium collapsing beige head. Aroma is strong in artisan caramel, molasses, booze, licorice. Taste is sweet with a little bitterness in the finish. Flavors of licorice, wet dog, rum. Oily mouthfeel, full body. Smells better than it tastes, but this is not bad.

Bright red/brown pour with a short tan head. Pretty spicy on the nose with licorice and toffee. Tastes a lot like Christmas: dates and spice. Finishes really quickly.

Bendrixian (1514) - Canadiana, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 3, 2013
fairly clear red/brown colour. more hoppy aroma than expected. sweet sugar notes and mint/eucalyptus. caramel and woodsy. Opens up quite hot. flavours of candy, and then butterscotch, toffee, molasses and a hint of rum.very interesting stuff.

vikingguy (1101) - Carver, Minnesota, USA - MAR 1, 2013
Amber color with tall brown foamy head. Aroma is rummy. Taste is rummy as well but plenty of other flavos coming though. Chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, molasses and dark sugar. Reminds me of Meyer’s Dark rum. A little boozy but a good sipper. Unique and interesting.

ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - FEB 23, 2013
High on sediment with a medium brown color, this brown ale has an earthy hop/malt aroma and a very smooth, malty aroma and flavor that’s very English in style and offers a clean, enjoyable, not very sweet overall experience while still not seeming too cloying or heavy or bland in any way. How’s that for a short review?
