The aroma is sweet and syrupy with caramel, molasses, grassy hops, and spices rum. The appearance is deep amber with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma with a buttery and papery finish. Tap at CK thanks to Travlr. Deep clear ruby with medium off white foam. Nose is booze, tomato stew, stewed carrot. Taste is bitter, toffee, caramel, tomato, herbs, puppy breath. Palate is heavier, rich, oily. Interesting.

Bottle. Pours an average mahogany with a nose of caramelized sugar, sweet malt donuts, light rose, and light biscuit. Flavor is a malty barrage of sugary biscuit flakes in a vat of light pancake syrup and booze. Average mouthfeel. Rum? Arrr, methinks ye be pullin’ me leg. Arrrrr. Not bad-- in fact it’s kinda tasty-- but the lack of rum and the too-pronounced boozy finish detract.

Pours out like coffee with a decent head that recedes. Smells of toffee and sweet malted brownies. Full on the tongue with good carbonation. A malty sweet brew with good whiskey notes. Bottle… Clear brown ale with flashes of burnt orange and a small, creamy, white head. The nose offers a strange marriage of fruitcake, toffee, cotton candy and crusted port. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and jazzy carbonation. The flavor is sweet and port-like with a caramel component and some harsh, boozy notes. Finishes alcoholic and sweet. Bottle: Deep muddy burnt caramel, moderate sandy head, frothy, with nice lacing. Molasses and burnt brown sugar nose. Also a touch of dark pitted fruit and cotton candy, well burnt cotton candy. On the tongue I am getting a little bit of an astringent soy like flavor, almost like the dark pitted fruit is too heavy and way too bready. &nbps Reminds me of a seriously over done Doppelbock. Body and mouthfeel are moderate. Heavy brown sugar flavors, molasses, slightly burnt. Its almost too much. Needs some hop bitterness to balance out the heavy maltiness. Too sugary sweet overall. Slight rum flavors on the finish. Needs something... maybe some more hops to balance it out. Could stand to be less sweet, but more velvety. Pours a delicious looking clear brown with a lingering, light brown head. Smells slightly boozy with hints of vanilla and molasses. Tastes about what the scent and appearance imply -- smooth and malty, quite sweet with a definite alcohol front. Had a slightly metallic aftertaste and was a bit astringent. 22. Pours a murky dark brown with a thin tan head that goes away quickly. Intense brown sugar and oak on the nose, tons and tons of molasses showing. Sticky medium body with very little carb. Lots of molasses and brown sugar on the mid palate. Rather markedly out of balance, but not a full blown mess. Long sweet sticky finish.
