Poured from the bottle into a taster glass. Medium/dark brown in color, very minimal head. Very sweet taste, medium body, not overly carbonated. More flavorful than a typical brown ale and very smooth, probably from the rum barrel aging. Enjoyable, I would drink it again. Blairgus (4613) - California, USA - OCT 6, 2012
5 Oct 2012, bottle. light ruby, clear, no bubbles. nose is sweet, ovaltine and raisins. med body and mildly fizzy. sweet, malty, faintly smoky, caramel, vanilla. lots of flavors and it is nice but i’m a bit disappointed. this could have been a serious, big beer, instead, it is just nice. kwoeltje (2233) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - DEC 29, 2012
(bottle - STLCOB end of year tasting) brown with tan head. Rich sweet malt aroma. Flavor is molasses, sweet toasty malts, alcohol. Comes together nicely. poisoneddwarf (2511) - Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, USA - MAR 22, 2013
Bomber bought at Super 1 in CDA, ID. Pours murky brownish-orange with a medium collapsing beige head. Aroma is strong in artisan caramel, molasses, booze, licorice. Taste is sweet with a little bitterness in the finish. Flavors of licorice, wet dog, rum. Oily mouthfeel, full body. Smells better than it tastes, but this is not bad. Aromas of maple syrup, molasses, honey and yeast. Deep brown with a magenta tint. Assertive hops and burnt caramel upfront. Slick, syrupy molasess, raisins, amber malt and boozey undertones. Finish leaves a continues booze taste and syrup on the tongue. Overall, This was much hoppier than I expected. Noticeable alcohol and nice malt base. I’d give this an A- rating.

Pours a murky brown with a billowy tan head. Aroma is hazelnut and mtallic caramel. Taste is sweet caramel. Full bodied, muted carbonation. Really smooth. Molasses, coffee, oak. Light, bitter booziness in the finish. Solid. mcox90 (2088) - Wilton, New Hampshire, USA - OCT 28, 2013
Sampled at NH Brew Fest. 4 oz. sample. Pours a hazy dark brown with a 1/4" white head. Aroma includes rum, molasses & dark fruits. Flavor is sweet with the molasses and dark fruits being predominant, but there is a bitterness from some earthy hops. Medium bodied. Nice, I’d buy a bottle if one came my way. Hazy light amber-brown, light sugary nose, some big molasses taste, with barrelly notes. Rich, lingering complex molasses character, the alcohol just enough to cut through this. Tasty. douglas88 (9192) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 4, 2014
On tap at the brewery. Pours a deep brown color with a medium white head. A sweet toffee, fruity sweet nose. The flavor is light rum, tropical notes, toffee, earthy dry malt base, a bit of caramel. Some heat. Very nice. hayduke (5211) - Eureka, California, USA - JUL 15, 2015
This was a draft pour at the RBSG. Poured amber, maybe even copper, with an off-white head. Nose caramel malts with a hint of rum. Medium plus body. Flavor is rich with some sugar, vanilla, and dark fruit. The rum and sugar combine for a nice finish. Very nice.
