Poured a finger of tan head on a dark brown body. Looks great.
The aroma is wonderful: molasses, dark chocolate, coffee and brown sugar.
The taste starts off lighter: vanilla and nuts. Then moves to a sweet profile: brown sugar, malty and a black licorice and alcohol heat finish.
The texture is a little sticky with low carbonation.
It’s a great beer and interesting... but at quite a price. ElGaucho (2401) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - JUN 7, 2013
Draft at Grumpy’s downtown. Pretty faint aroma. Need to breathe in deeply to get anything. Dark, hazy amber with yellowish light tan head. Nice lace. Initial mouthfeel is hot. But it quickly mellows into a caramelly sweet flavor brought on by the oak and palm sugar. A really nice brew. edgallow (4369) - nashville, Tennessee, USA - JUN 17, 2013

Bottle was a gusher. Pours a hazy brown with fluffy tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma of sweet molasses, caramel, toffee, toasted barley, and a hint of booze. Taste follows, but no real booze burn at all. Nice, nothing awesome, but solid. alobar (3879) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 27, 2013
Pours a chestnut brown color with a minimal creamy tan head. Aroma of molasses, dark fruit, and rum. Molasses flavor with toffee, dark fruit, and hint of alcohol and touch of hop bitterness. Bit of alcohol warmth as well. Nice beer.

Loved this. Pours a murky orange with off white bread. Aromas are strong caramel and brown sugar. Flavors are very malty and sugary. I get some rum too. This is nice. Strykzone (7557) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUN 18, 2015
Sampled at Widmer. Namber brown. A little foam. Insmell complex dark fruit sugar, and rum. Flavor Is brown sugar with intetesting fruit. Raisins. Akin to a barleywine. A bit of sourness. talon1117 (1152) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 25, 2012
The pour is a translucent, deep mahogany color with a fairly small, beige, pillowy head which is somewhat lasting and leaves minimal lace. The nose is fairly bland for the strength of the beer; molasses, brown sugar, light smoky notes, faint metallic, faint anise toasted caramel, and some roast in there. The flavor is nice with rich caramel, molasses, faint rum barrels, brown sugar, some spicy notes, still some light smoke and roast. The palate is nearly full, less than lively, warming, chewy, and slightly syrupy. The finish is still rich with molasses, more roasty tones, slight anise, and a slight barrel note emerging. Not a bad strong brown ale but the additions seemed to be fairly minimal. The descriptions from the bottle did not really come through which leads me to believe that this one may benefit from some age. However, it is probably not worth it to pay the $13 for another to find out. Arayaga2 (2218) - portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 26, 2012
Even opaque brown with a thin white head. Aroma and taste are nutty roasted sugars, and taste is the same with slight tannic bitterness. $5/10
