Tap @ Widmer Gasthaus... Poured dark brown with hints of red and a bubbly, white head. Nice lacing. Initially served too cold and offered a slight metallic flavor. This faded as it warmed. Overall quite worty with big malt grains and sweetness. Bitter-sweet molasses, brown sugar, oak, and hints of rum. Not over ally apparent that it was barrel aged. talon1117 (1152) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 25, 2012
The pour is a translucent, deep mahogany color with a fairly small, beige, pillowy head which is somewhat lasting and leaves minimal lace. The nose is fairly bland for the strength of the beer; molasses, brown sugar, light smoky notes, faint metallic, faint anise toasted caramel, and some roast in there. The flavor is nice with rich caramel, molasses, faint rum barrels, brown sugar, some spicy notes, still some light smoke and roast. The palate is nearly full, less than lively, warming, chewy, and slightly syrupy. The finish is still rich with molasses, more roasty tones, slight anise, and a slight barrel note emerging. Not a bad strong brown ale but the additions seemed to be fairly minimal. The descriptions from the bottle did not really come through which leads me to believe that this one may benefit from some age. However, it is probably not worth it to pay the $13 for another to find out. Arayaga2 (2197) - portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 26, 2012
Even opaque brown with a thin white head. Aroma and taste are nutty roasted sugars, and taste is the same with slight tannic bitterness. $5/10

Sample at Hal & Al’s. Pours a hazy brown color with a medium khaki head that recedes slowly. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and rum. Medium to full body with flavors of roast malt, oaky rum and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a rum and molasses aftertaste. Decent overall. RobertDale (6471) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - MAY 5, 2013

Pours orangish brown with small off white head. Aroma of molasses and malts. Taste is even better...carmel malts, molasses, salt, and alcohol. krumbum (1109) - truckee, California, USA - JUN 14, 2013
Deep golden brown color. Light malty sweetness to the smell. Syrupy mouth feel with heavy malt residue left on the tongue! Where the sip was enjoyable the after taste was similar to licking treated wood. blutt59 (6564) - Dallas, Texas, USA - AUG 29, 2013

Love the style! What a great concept. Really good effort at it too. Sweet and light brown with just enough body. Sweet, needs a little balance, but the rum casks help. nuplastikk (6256) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - APR 5, 2014
Tap at Mason Lounge, listed as a Barleywine, so sort of rated from that perspective. Amber-copper body, looks filtered. Lots of rising carbonation bubbles meet an off-white, creamy head. The molasses smooths out the already malty beer. Adds some sweetness too. Creamy and smooth, this would be a fun beer to bring to a tasting. Almost has some Cream Ale tones incorporated into the rich amber malt. Vanilla touches. Quite nice, well executed.
