Very dark, nutty, sweet (but not overwhelingly). Slight bitterness. Overall great beer. jandd1983 (4318) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - MAR 5, 2013
Sampled at the W&C Ballas open house. It poured a dark amber color with a tan head. The aroma was of sweet caramel and toffee with some cherry tobacco notes. The taste was of tobacco, caramel and toffee with a lingering brown bread finish. Well done. dfinney23 (3269) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 3, 2013
The promised chocolate, cinnamon, pecans and chilies are all perceptible but extremely subtle, with chocolate strongest up front and pecan building as it warms up. Wish it was all a bit stronger. stevencon (522) - Sarasota, Florida, USA - MAR 1, 2013
On tap a proof. Dark brown pour with big creamy off white head that stays. Nutty malt aroma. Nutty brown ale with a chile taste that lingers. Flavor is good but kind of straight forward and not complex. As it warms lots of chocolate comes to the palate. Patrickctenchi (6586) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - FEB 28, 2013
Deep brown, minimal head.
Aroma is chocolate, nuts, slight chile notes.
Taste is cocoa, roast, pecans...increasing chile burn, though mild.
A little lackluster....good, but not great.

The presentation definitely outlives the beer itself. 55° reveals somewhat integrated mix of exactly what the bottle lists on the nose. Taste is almost like chili licorice cola, plenty of layers for the weight, obvious chili spice which I love in food, and can do without in my glass. It’s as unique as it is uncoordinated. Going to have to put on the trooper face to finish this one. BrewtopiaofPJ (37) - Miller Place, New York, USA - FEB 21, 2013
Smells amazing upon opening chocolates and brown sugar spices and booze, lovely. Not sure if I tasted heat, chili was more of hint. extra points for being creative in a tasty way. tgncc (3132) - Bellmore, New York, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Aroma is brown sugar, booze. The flavor is caramel, brown sugar. The finish isweet, pine hops. The appearance is amber, clear, white head. Decent. queenholly (3623) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Bottle. Earthy chocolate aroma, and a little chili as it warms. Chestnut with a small beige head. Pecan, chocolate, and very light chili flavor. No significant heat... maybe a hint of "warm". Light to medium body, moderate carbonation. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Bottle. And wow. Pours a near black with a moderate light tan head. The nose is nothing I would have ever expected from a beer. You’re first hit with some rich chocolate notes that don’t imply sweetness. There is some subtle spices that are under the chocolate, but the chocolate dominates (I’m having trouble not continually smelling this beer). Chocolate is quite muted in the taste. Taste actually does bring out a slight bit of heat from the chilies and some nuttiness. Very complex and surprisingly light.
