Appearance: The body is a clear and deep mahogany with garnet hues, only a thin tan head appears on the pour, it quickly settles into a ring.
Aroma: The first thing to come to mind is sweet cocoa, but a sweet malty and nutty aroma backs it up. Chilies are noticed, but very subdued and the aroma is a bit weak on the whole.
Taste: Sweet malts and cocoa are blended together on the intro, the cocoa becomes stronger with slight powder flavors and hints of roasted flavors become prominent by the mid-taste while introducing nutty flavors with slight cinnamon. The finish hints at chilies, but only slightly and lingering is a slight cocoa flavor and slight heat from the chilies.
Palate: Thick and slightly syrupy, some sharp carbonation by the finish.
Overall: This is a pretty impressive beer, I really have no faults with it. I don’t love this, but it’s certainly worth trying out. The flavors blend into each other nicely, well done.
22 ounce bottle shared. As one in our group pointed out, the Brothers Widmer must’ve been high when they conceived this one. It has a snackshop’s worth of ingredients. It works out really well, though. The aroma is pretty much all milky chocolate and maybe a touch of hot, spicy chile pepper. The appearance is pretty close to black, with a brown head. As noted, each of the components in the brewer’s description were retained in the flavor profile of the final product. We could all pick up on the pecans, spice, cinnamon, chillies, and of course the largest player ends up being the chocolate. Palate was medium bodied, not too big despite all those heavy ingredients and the malty taste. Smooth, low carbonation. The higher-than-average abv is undetectable. Overall it’s a real crowd pleaser and very approachable as a dessert beverage for people who may not normally like beer. Suttree (6358) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Dark brown, nice sturdy tan head. Smells chocolatey and nutty, kinda like fudge. Taste is also chocolatey, with a surprising amount of pecan flavor. Cinnamon and pepper is in the background. Pretty tasty.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin tan head that fades very quickly and a very nice violet and ruby tint. Aroma of chocolate, more chocolate and bunches of earth, peat and roasted malt. Full-bodied; Strong chocolate flavour with a lot of malt, definite chile flavour and heat, some light coffee and spices and a hint of burnt nuts. Aftertaste is quite complex with the spices touching a little bit, but the taste is mainly around the chocolate, malt and chile mixed with a great big body and bunches of alcohol. Overall, a nice beer that holds true to the writing on the front and a pleasant tasting - not my favourite beer and one that I couldn’t drink all the time, but a nice beer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington, DC (Logan Circle / P St NW) on 06-October-2012 for US$12.99 sampled at home in Washington on 25-March-2013. llcooldave (1211) - San Antonio, Texas, USA - JUN 28, 2013

Bottle, the eighth in our tasting lineup of Beers of Fall. No pumpkin in this one, but it was agreed that the profile fit the season. Dark brown with golden amber highlights. Nutty chocolatey aroma. Nice malt profile, roasted nuts, chocolate, light fall spices, and a welcome tingly heat in the finish. Very good. AirForceHops (7131) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 1, 2014
22 oz. bottle. Dark brown color thin tan head. The nose is malty with nuts, light spice. Flavor is really nice. Full body with the spice being real subtle in the finish. Big chocolate, cocoa nibs, cinnamon and light chili, very tasty.
