Glen Falconer was passionate about friends, familly, and great IPAs. So in tribute, we’ve created an IPA worth of this master brewer. Made with Falconer’s Flight hops from Hopunion, LLC, a blend named for Glen himself. The result is a bright, moderately bitter IPA with stonefruit aromas and a strong malt backbone. We think Glen would approved. Proceeds from the sale of Falconer’s Flight hops go to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, providing scholarships to professional and aspiring brewers. In addition, Widmer Brothers Brewing is making a donation to grant two additional scholarships. Learn more at www.glenfalconerfoundation.org. Prost! To true hop heads.

On tap at Iron Horse in DC. Clear copper color with a one finger whitish head. Resin and pine dominate on the aroma with malt in the background. It has caramel and orange rind flavors, rather balanced and tasty, just a bit on the sweeter side. Medium body with average carbonation. Solid but not amazing.

Location/Date:Draft at Iron Horse Taproom, January 4th, 2012.

Appearance: Pours dark orange..
Aroma: Aroma of some pine..
Taste: Medium bitterness, pine, caramel..
Palate:Medium body, lingering aftertaste..

Summary: Really enjoyed this one. Can’t say which of the rotator I liked the best or if this one was elevated due to being on draft, but liked it. Maybe it was the lack of IPA style options at the bar, who knows.

Easily my favorite in the Rotator series. This beer is why I prefer IPAs--appealing appearance and nose, very hoppy and a well-hidden elevated abv. Typical good product from Widmer Brothers.

Beer pours a bright copper color, slightly cloudy and a small foamy head. Aroma is right on: caramel malts with apricot, vanillla and bread. A wonderful sticky mouthfeel - lots of body. Moderate carbonation. Sweet like an imperial. Hops like grapefruit. Very bitter finish. This is a bid IPA. Very satisfying. Everything one looks for in an IPA is here. Might be the best Widmer brew I have tried to date.

First let me say that I am not an IPA guy. Not because I don’t like the hoppy flavors but the bitter finish reminds me too much of life and beer is supposed to be an escape. This is a very fine beer, probably a great beer for an IPA type of person. Great hoppy aroma, hints of citrus. Darker than I expect for a pale ale but a beautiful burnt orange color. Wonderful floral notes mix with the hops - very tasty. Bitter finish is not my favorite, but also not overwhelming on this brew. Body of this beer is little heavier than I expected.

Draft @ Mellow Mushroom. Pours a hazy amber/orange with nice off white head. Smell is predomitately orange and grapefruit citrus with caramel malts. Taste is mostly orange citrus with a bigger maltiness. Taste actually falls off rather quickly and shows some flaws. However, still a solid ipa.

Draft at Brass Tap Trinity. Pours a fairly clear copper amber color with a mid sized off-white head. Good lacing along the glass. Aroma has a decent amount of piney citrus hops. Flavor is good without being overly hoppy. Nice balance of hops and malt with a slightly dry hoppy finish. Tasty, easy drinking IPA.

Crisp copper coloured body with a bit of a light amber glow and almost no head at all. Aroma of grassy and candy sweet hops with a hint of yeast and alcohol. Medium-bodied; Very grassy and herbal hops with a perfumey kick and a nice malt flavour coupled with some herbal spice finishes. Aftertaste shows a good balance of hops and malt with a nice light sweetness at the tail end. Overall, a decent IPA with a lot of hops noticeable and a high IBU count, I’m sure, but when coupled with the malt and the subtle finish, makes for a relatively easy-drinking IPA. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Giant Food in Falls Church (Bailey’s Crossroads), Virginia on 12-October-2012 for US$8.99/six pack, sampled at home in Upstate New York on 26-December-2012.
