Draught at Zeke’s on a lot of occasions. Golden amber and bright with a thin head. Heavily spiced nose with pepper, cardamom and maybe mace. Fresh, refreshing, with lots of fruity, floral spice, and earthy, bitter hops. The hops level is so perfect, and the spices go together with those hops so well, that this beer is just exceptionally easy to drink. I’ve had a lot of these.1 brokensail (16449) - Dublin, California, USA - AUG 16, 2012
Golden color with a white head. Interesting blend of citrus hops and spices. Heavy on the anise, pepper, ginger, and cinnamon. The other aromatics are there, but less so. Decent tea aroma. A hint of sweet malt in the background. The flavor has a nice hoppiness to it with mild to moderate bitterness. As with the nose, heavy anise, pepper, ginger, cinnamon, and tea. The finish is fairly bitter, which is likely augmented by some of the spices. Really interesting and different. bhensonb (15194) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 18, 2012
Bottle from Malt and Vine. Pours light amber with a creamy/fluffy white head. Holy crap Batman. There’s a lot going on with this aroma. And my brain has just decided it really smells like basil. Which I am very up on right now, cause I’m growing a lot of it. Or trying to. Damn bugs. Persistent inhaling reveals pepper and ginger aromas. Wow. Clarence should have opted for this instead of malmsey. Med body. Or better. Flavor is very spicy. I get the ginger, cardamom, pepper and maybe the anise. I can’t distinguish the clove - except maybe for a little "burn". Damn but this is good stuff. It’s certainly bitter from hop, but the spice is just complexly over everything. I think you could marinate lamb in this and get a great result. Age this in white wine barrels and put it in 750s. And get the ABV up to 9 or 10. Good stuff here. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a medium fizzy white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, spice and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of herbal hops, peaches and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a hoppy and spicy aftertaste. Decent overall.
