on tap at widmer. some belgian yeast character and orange rind in the aroma. light grassiness but a bit too sweet and lacking the spiciness that i like in saisons Ernest (7662) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - OCT 18, 2004
RBSG Portland 2004, at the brewpub. Body is light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cookie), with a note of banana. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Too sweet for the style, and a quite simple and boring nose. Call it a generic Belgian style ale and maybe we can discuss it, but a saison this ain’t. 3fourths (9331) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 11, 2004
Medium yellow appearance. Spice and fruit in the nose, some apricot, lemon, wheat and some robust bananas. Mellow and sweet lemons and punchy sweet bananas in the flavor... some wheat and ginger in a tingling finish. Pretty solid. Does it fit as a saison? Not exacly, but it's tasty. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - AUG 6, 2004
Light orange gold color. Small head. Aroma is slightly spicy, fruity and funky. A medium bodied saison. Malts are fruity and sweet. Nice herbal, cobwebby funkiness. Very smooth. Nicely balanced. A touch sweet. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. Aubrey (3516) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - JUL 25, 2004
Deep golden with an off-white head. Very similar to their triple in many ways (appearance, texture, taste), but it had a big tangerine flavor/aroma ... as well as clove. Much too sweet, almost as if it hasn’t attenuated enough.

(RBSG04) Clean amber body topped by beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, herbal, white pepper. Taste is moerately sweet, candi sugar, herbal, white pepper, some caramel. Medium body, not particularly dry finish. Too sweet for the style. Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 22, 2004
RBSG 2004 at the brewpub: Clear amber with a small white head. Fruity bubblegum aroma, starts lightly sweet and then gets sweeter, watery mouthfeel. beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - JUL 20, 2004
UPDATED: SEP 20, 2004 On tap at the widmer brewery. Pours amber with a small white head. Fruit and spice dominate the aroma with citrus, banana, and coriander. Taste starts sweet and spicy, with a good dose of malt, and ends with a nice fruitiness and banana taste and a light fizzy carbonation. duff (5484) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JUN 14, 2004

Definite Belgian yeast, peppery, orangey, a bit sticky, and short in my opinion, but at least they’re trying something different suppose.
Blonde pellucid color with white head, no lacing. Low carbonation. The aroma is lightly spicy with some bright citrus & yeast, good to style. The flavor has a bite of yeast, bread & malt (wheat maybe). Crisp hops and a citrusy tail. Finishes rounded and fairly good. I like saisons and this one was a bit too clean for me but had a good flavor range.
