My favourite beer at the Wig and Pen. the beer to go to if you love hops. Fresh, hoppy, delicious. Muggus69 (2531) - Yarram, Vic, AUSTRALIA - FEB 19, 2014
Old notes 11/2/09 Draught at Brewery, Canberra
Copper bodied beer, a bit of clarity about. Holds a rocky white head.
Offers plenty on the nose; citrus, pine, melon, grass, passionfruit, ripe apricot and peach, with a good slug of caramel maltiness in support.
Full bodied, holds the abv well without being thick or cloying. Decent carbonation with a slickness to the texture, alluding to good dose of hop oils.
Good intensity of spicy stonefruits and citrus on the body, the malt holds up well with plenty of nutty, toffee character. Firm bitterness to finish, lingers for a good while.
Certainly one of the better IIPA’s out there in Australia, good balance and flavour! Stew41 (2040) - Phuket, THAILAND - JAN 31, 2014
Not miles away from the SOS minus the smoke and spice. New world style but not over the top; resiny hops, a hint of marzipan (a trait I would normally associate with high ABV). This is a creeper as you barely feel the alcohol until a light head hits you an hour later. fletchfighters (1541) - AUSTRALIA - SEP 2, 2012
Had on tap at the Wig and Pen
A-- Poured a dark amber color with tints of orange. Nice looking fine carbonation beads showing after being given the glass. Half finger of light brown head that sat at film through drinking. Really nice lacing left while drinking. Lots of webs on the side of the glass.
S-- Quite a strong Carmel nose. Big hop flower nose (I think Riwaka hops). Quite floral smell after the carmel.
T-- Quite floral with some pine, orange and tangerine. Once again a big carmel backbone to smooth out the hops.
M-- Creamy and smooth. Long lasting feel to this. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Lots of resin with this. Solid stuff.
O-- Thought this was double pale ale. Not a DIPA. To me more of a double pale ale by the ABV and body. Anyway, solid as heck beer. Not as floral as other beers using NZ hops are and has more of the US characters you would taste in a beer. Not all hop flower and perfume like. Really big malt body suited it quite well.

Tap.Clear pale orange-amber with small, dense off-white to light tan head. Aroma of american hops-citrus, etc. with a significant bitter finish. Medium bodied. Nice. davidm (2080) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - APR 18, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Exceptional beer. Aromas of burnt caramel and grass. Taste has a sweet start, with bitterness taking over for a long finish. Palate is silky, with a medium-to-full body. Amber, with a frothy head. bluevegie (3073) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 1, 2009
Third beer tried at the W&P back in may and this one seemed tame after the first two. Piney aroma, hops most of the way in the taste with some malt supporting, not big in body as other IIPA’s I have tried but it didn’t need to be. Tasted ok but the Hop Heads and Hopidemic were more enjoyable. nate2g (1548) - Boomtown!, AUSTRALIA - MAY 30, 2009
Draught at Wig & Pen, Canberra. Pours dark golden with small, diminished white head. Aroma of caramel malt, fruit and pine. The flavour is caramel malt, tropical fruit mix and hops. Smooth, bitter finish. I’m impressed with the freshness of the beers served at the W&P and this is no exception.
