Draft. A black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of coffee, liquorice, roasted malt, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, alcohol, liquorice, and chocolate, leading to a dry roasted finish. Gerbeer (3751) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 23, 2017
330 ml bottle. Pours black with moderate foamy tan head. Aromas of woody dark chocolate, chicory, dry vanilla, coffee beans and dry roasted malts. Flavors of follow same with emphasis on dry vanilla. Pretty dry, but a lingering sweetness. Good stuff. jinroh (1595) - ESTONIA - JUN 15, 2017
Dark brown, some brown foam comes to the top when poured vigorously but that’s gone in seconds, overall pretty flat. Aroma has some roast malt syrup, soy sauce and piles of umami. I am getting some burnt black bread also, roast is not too high though. Not much vanilla and not much coffee, although these two are supposed to be there. Taste is again mainly soy sauce-forward, liking it as it’s not too sweet, and dryness makes it quite drinkable. Still a warming drink that I am enjoying quite much. Long and roasty soy sauce finish. Aroma is typical for a good imperial stout, being complex and heavy with chocolate, roasted nuts and coffee beans. Full body, light carbonation. Vanilla, creamy lactose. Some plastic there, but it’s only subtle. A bit rough post-taste, feeling a punchy alcoholic feel. Very good! rodsquad (243) - Aberdeen, SCOTLAND - MAY 2, 2017
Bottle from Westhill Service Station. Pours darkest ruby brown with tan foam head. Aromas are smooth with creamy dark chocolate, vanilla cream then brandy soaked fruit. Flavours hit with a roasty bold front, strong Irish coffee, creamy chocolate and an earthy bitterness. Palate is soft and smooth with a dry prickly gentle sparkle. A superb dessert-like beer. I’m imagining an Irish coffee chocolate trifle. Lovely boozy stuff.
