DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A VERY SWEET BEER. Pours a deep red with a purplish head that unfortunately dissipates quickly. Definitely smells of blackberries, as expected and doesn’t really smell of much else though the faint hoppiness of beer can be detected. Tastes very sweet and greatly of blackberries with nice undertones of malt and hops. Ultimately has a nice mouth-feel and the palate is pleasing; it has a surprisingly full body for a lager and the texture is rather sticky, as it is so sweet. Has lively carbonation and is rather fizzy, almost like a blackberry soda (and probably flavored with blackberry extract) and finishes sweet.

Pink/purple with a cream head. Nose is raspberries and cough syrup. Very thin on the palate, water, sugar, cough syrup, and raspberries.

The aroma is very sweet and almost exactly like berry candy. The appearance is deep purple red with a small head. The taste is like the aroma with a touch of funk. The palate is thin. Overall it’s macro swill but it smells nice and is not super offensive just seems artificial and so cloyingly sweet I can’t finish it.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a purple brown with a tin quarter inch head that fades. Taste is of fruit juice, blackberries and some alcohol. Similar aroma. Has a decent body. Easy to drink and rather pleasant, but not quite as good as the Blue version.

Bottle. Generic artificial berry aroma. Deep purple with a small pink head. Artificial berry and alcohol flavor. Light fizzy body. Really bad alcopop ... ’nuf said.

Bottle from Blue Dog. Pours turbid, merlot colored with fizzy pink head. Nose is earthy blackberry and red wine grapes. Tastes very sweet, with notes if blackberry, grape juice, and an odd finishing flavor. Light alcopoppy palate that isn’t complex.

Deep purple with a quickly fading purplish head that leaves no lacing. Aroma of heavy blackberry and grapes, smells a bit too much like kool-aid and not enough like beer. It kind of tastes like kool-aid (or grape soda) too but at least it pounds the taste of the fruit home unlike a lot of fruit beers out there. It has a bit of artificial aftertaste and leaves me scratching my head to why AB has to make these fruity beers at 8%.

Bottled. Poured clear burgundy with a pink-tinted beige head. The aroma picked up lots and lots of blackberries with honey and pale malt backing.. as expected and not particularly enticing. The flavor found sweetened blackberry meat, honey, and a touch of vanilla at the core.. lightly tart blackberry seeds, black pepper, and prickly carbonation around.. copying and a bit sharp on the finish. Medium-bodied with high carbonation on the palate.. too sweet.. OK feel overall. There is a market for this, and I’m not it.

Bottle @ home. Just another pos that I have to clean out of girlfriend’s fridge before I leave for Europe. What a gem. Deep purple appearance with a lavender head. Aroma is half purple stuff and half grape drank. Really smells like koolaid. Blackberry, grape juice, cough syrup flavor. Fucked up shit. I’ve had better mixed purple drinks in the dorm as a freshman.

Pours a clear dark brown with a thick, though not persistent, tan head. Blackberry dominates the aroma - and I love blackberries, but it doesn’t really smell like a beer. Flavor is pleasant, sweet and fruity - but not really like a beer. Might as well be fruit juice - doesn’t quite taste like wine or cider, either. Texture is smooth and fizzy, but body leaves something to be desired. I don’t believe I’ll be looking for its "sister" beers.
