COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
How about a big, malty beer that evokes a good red wine and with a drier finish than you’d expect at 10.5% ABV?

Eschaton is a one-of-a-kind oaked all-malt Quadrupel (or “Belgian Strong Dark” if you prefer) that abounds with dark fruit and pit fruit flavors as well as earthy spiciness. Vanilla oak and warm viniferous notes assert themselves as the beer warms to reveal additional layers of delicious complexity. 22SRM

Suggested food pairings: Lamb, rabbit, duck, Stilton cheese, Belgian chocolate, tart fruit desserts.

More of a dubbel style than what I’d think of as a quad. Lots of plums, dark berries, malt, and toast. Pretty delicious. Enjoyed it from a can, strangely enough.

Tap. Pours a clear dark amber body with a small tight bubbled brown head. The nose is pretty boozy with heavy dark fruits, maybe a hint of acetone. The flavor is a bit off as well, it’s just lots of boozy alcohol, some caramel malt, plum, lingering chemical like finish. Medium to full bodied with a chewy thickness and soft fizzy carbonation. Not going to pass for an authentic Belgian with this one.

12 oz. canned in 2016. Can’t recall drinking a canned Quad before; this is possibly the magnificent future that our ancestors fought and died for. Cheers, prost, salud, etc. to them! Deep mahogany body has a thin film of bubbles. Nose is clove, mild bubblegum and dark toffee. Flavors of clove, prune, bubblegum, cocoa, sassafras, oak, dark toffee and a hint of char. Medium-heavy body is chewy in a pleasant way. Has a nice balance and hides the abv well with just a touch of warming. Smooth, medium carbonation.

Poured from the tap at the Taco Mac in Atlanta, GA. The appearance is a clear reddish brown color with a thick medium sized off-white head. The aroma is full of fruit and spices. The taste is rather sweet, made up of fruit and vanilla. An outstanding beer.

Bottle shared at the MDBG tasting 4/4/16. Rating 11.7k! Dark brown, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of tart cherries and bandaid. The taste is cherries and toffee. Thin bodied, very highly carbonated. Something strange is afoot here.

Quite the foamer right out of the bottle. Had to wait some time to finish pouring gently and let sit. Still very gassy after swirling to try and knock out some of the prickly carbonation, but it was never totally right. Had nice notes of dark pitted fruits in the nose and flavor. The back end of the flavor had a slight astringency holding it back. Could be very good, but it seems I got an off one.

Bacterial (3027) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - FEB 18, 2016
Dark amber pour from a 32oz growler. Clear with a slight tan head. Boozy malty raisin nose. Sweet dark fruit, malty, some belgian spice, a bit of bitterness and oak tannin in the finish. Pretty good.

PorterPounder (8185) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - NOV 28, 2015
Savannah, Ga. - Whole Foods Market - 11.2 oz bottle. Chestnut brown pour, long lasting, silky off-white head that sticks around a while. Pleasant, but not overly omnipresent aroma with some light dates, a hint of molasses. Solid flavor that leans to the sweet side with some hints of dates, a brief taste of sweet cherries, some subtle chocolate notes and a wee bit of alcohol. Nice sticky mouthfeel. Pretty solid, expect just a tad more from a quad though.

Leighton (21879) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 25, 2015
Bottle shared downtown during RBWG 2014 - Asheville Late-Nite. Cheers! Pours clear amber with a bubbly, off-white head. Rich malts in the nose, figs, ripe fruits. Big sweet flavor with robust bready malt character, dates, moderate toffee. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, with sticky sugars, ripe fruits, brown sugar, toffee, plums. Ticks all the quad boxes. Solid overall.
