Hop-heads REJOICE! This American style black ale has a medium-high hop bitterness. The bitterness is piney and clean. This medium bodied beer has a wonderful dark malt flavor and aroma without roasted astringency.

Tar, citrus fruits, and dark berries on the nose. Dark ruby with fairly diminishing, white head foam. Dry and bitter with some milk chocolate flavors. Medium body, average carbonation, and a roasted chocolatey finish.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt with nuts, caramel, earth and a bit of bitterness as well from the hops. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt and nutty flavours with a nice sweetness from caramel and toffee, that all finish with a mild but noticeable hop backbone. Aftertaste again shows more malt than hops, but the sweetness is also around, coupled with some grassy elements of the hops. Overall, a decent Black IPA with some good flavours, but more malt than hops make this about average. I sampled this pint on draught at the restaurant at Skyland in Shenendoah National Park in Shenendoah, Virginia in May 2014.

Draft at the Wild Wolf Brewpub. Poured a dark black color with a slightly tan off-white head. Aroma is some roasted malts with plenty of hops. Better than balanced - this one had a lot more hops than malts, leading to a better India Ale than most other Black IPA/IBAs. Nice carbonation. Quite an enjoyable brew.

Draft at brewery. We stopped at the new Wild Wolf brewpub on the Wintergreen road. The IBA poured a deep black with a big frothy head that laced down the glass. The ale was excellent with a nice balance of roasted malt and hops. The bitterness impacted your lower mouth. The medium body ale had average carbomation. This is my third beer from them and the best of the group.

Served on draft at Mellow Mushroom Charlottesville. Pours a dark brown color with a medium creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of sweet malts, cocoa powder and faint hops. The taste is chocolate, roasted malts, bitter astringent hops. Thin-medium bodied. Not very good.
