Nice to try something from another Virginia brewery. Draft at Cap Ale Innsbrook some time back. Medium reddish brown, slight head. Aroma is of sweet malt, and faint smokiness. Flavor is simple, caramel accented malts. Not much else. Thought it was because it had been served too cold, but even as this warmed up, not much else emerged. Maybe some faint dark fruit. Odd bitterness at finish. Not bad, just not my favorite. Foxbush (2141) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JUN 9, 2012
This was tasted at Capital Ale House in Fredericksburg. This was a fun ale to enjoy. The Scotch Ale had body and drinkability. The dark amber color had a small head that quickly disappeared. There were some smells of molasses and lively carbonation. The finish was smooth with no bitterness in the aftertaste. Travlr (26406) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - APR 7, 2012
Draft. Hazy dark brown color, thin white head, nice lacing. Aroma of caramel and subtle black pepper. Taste is creamy chocolate milk, lightly spiced caramel and pepper. Could use more body. Drake (14332) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 1, 2012
Draft at Capital Ale House Harrisonburg. Pours a hazy brown color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Faint aroma with toffee and earthy notes. The taste is toffee, earth, plum, cherry, caramel and bitter hops. Medium bodied. tia (2228) - Sandston, Virginia, USA - MAR 21, 2012
Tap @ Capital Ale House Downtown (listed as Three Legged Scotsman- so I’m not positive this is the correct listing but am putting it here under advisement from Drake). Sludgy brown with thin dissipating head. Smells like molasses and a hint of sour cherry. Tastes a little roasty and sweet with a dry finish. Soft carbonation.
