3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aromas of cocoa, coffee, subtle booze, and subtle cherries. Black with a somewhat diminishing, tan head. Sightly sweet, some strength, balanced well with finishing hop bitterness. Full bodied with low carbonation, and a roasty, warming, bitter finish.
Shout out to my brother for bringing this fresh from the brewery in Virginia! This imperial stout pours a beautiful slightly ruby-accented black appearance with a dark khaki head. Aroma is surprisingly unsophisticated and somewhat bland, mostly boozy with some roast coffee malt. Flavor fortunately is a complex roasty malty flavor with cocoa and coffee malt, some red fruit and ethanol notes. Some hoppy bitterness in the background, fruity ester tang, overall quit delicious! Full-bodied with a chewy mouthfeel. Pleasantly not too boozy in the finish. A solid savory one-and-done brew!

Pours opaque coffee brown with a thick and fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma features roast malt, chocolate, caramel and molasses notes. Flavor echoes the aroma though not quite as strong. Mouthfeel delivers nice fizz and body. Howlin’ good! hershiser2 (3410) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - JUN 20, 2016
$12.49 bomber from Wine Warehouse. Pours black with a large medium-brown head. Aroma of chocolates, slight dark fruit. Flavor is intense chocolate, raisins, deep buried coffee in the end. Nice. jefcon (1878) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - NOV 7, 2015
Rich and raisin-y with an abundance of fruit and chocolate and raisin notes. Doesn’t live very much in the glass and finishes kind of flabby, Still an outsized example of the style. Very intense flavors.

Sampled at the RBSG 2014. It poured a black color with a brown head. The aroma was of cocoa, funk and light roast. The taste was of sweet cocoa, dark chocolate, roast and more funk. Awesome. bubbleflubber (2228) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - JUL 10, 2014
Bomber that's been aging for a few months. Pours black with the deepest of mahogany fringes. The eggshell head reduces to ring lacing around the glass. The nose is of dark esters, bittersweet chocolate and lightly roasted grain. Everything about the flavor is dark. Dark fruity esters, sweetness from dark chocolates, roasted grain and finishing with a nicely balanced hop back, so as not to be cloying. Velvety on the palate and full-bodied, this Russian Imperial Stout is a nice take on the style. It makes for a great aperitif, before or after dinner.
