On tap at the brewery, this pours almost black with mahogany fringes, a tan head reduces to soapy lacing. The nose is woody and smoked. Flavors follow suit, leaning toward roasts more than sweet malt accents. Woody, roasted and smoky, it is soft on the palate, and an easy quaff.

On tap at Wild Woods poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, smoke, dark chocolate and light vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate and light vanilla with a smooth lingering chocolate finish.

Tap at Vine Street. Pours clear black with a medium, creamy dark tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is roast and chocolate malt, lactose, dark fruity esters and biscuit notes. Flavor is sweet chocolate malt, biscuit notes, lactose, dark fruity esters, light hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish pour with thin off white head, aroma brought notes of roast, coffee, slight vanilla, hints of caramel, cocoa powder, slight toffee, molasses in there as well, not much smoke. Taste is a mix of roasted malts, some coffee, dark chocolate powder, hints of toffee, slight vanilla, earth and spice, finishing fairly bitter. Black with a small khaki head. Nose of coffee, burnt grains and a little black licorice. Kind of a burnt malt flavor with some over roasted coffee, and a smooth graham cracker sweetness on the finish. Nice undertones of sweet chocolate throughout. Grows on ya.
