3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draught at 2013 North American Organic Brewers Festival. Golden amber color. Sweet caramel syrup aroma. Sweet malt flavor and a syrupy mouthfeel.
473ml can. Pours a hazy copper with a small, short lived off-white head that fully dissipates. Sweet aroma of bready malt, caramel and grain with sour lemon. Sweet flavour of bready malt, grain, lemon, honey and alcohol with sour apple cider vinegar in a dry finish. Light to medium body with a thin texture and average carbonation. Drinkable but very sour for a Heller Bock. Skyview (6115) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - SEP 5, 2016
Picked up a single 16-oz can at Summer Sun Garden and Brew in Missoula, Montana, and sampled at the brewery taproom in Stevensville, Montana. Pours a semi-clear golden amber colored brew with a thick off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of hard pitted fruits, golden grain malt and a hint of apple. Taste is medium bodied, a little astringent apple cider going on with golden grain malt and some tart hard fruits. Finish is semi-tart with golden grain malt and mild earthy hops. Product could have been past its shelf life. Willing to try again. bartzluke (598) - Oklahoma, USA - AUG 12, 2015
16 oz from refrigerated bottle into shaker pint. Orange, hazy, minimal head. Nose is bready, biscuit, sweet, a little hay, a little earthy. Body is medium, crisp, a little sticky. Taste is biscuit up front, but then lots of berry and fruity citrus. Wow. Fruitiness Bock I’ve had. Different, but quite good. Darkmagus82 (2303) - - APR 26, 2015
Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a hazy amber color with a one finger head of just off white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading to leave a light level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is strongest of a bready and slightly grainy smell mixed with a decent showing of a lemon and sour funk smell. Along with these aromas comes some lighter notes of a sweet orange and apricot as well as a bit of a grassy hop aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a mix of a grainy and quite sour taste with a good deal of funk and some lemon. There is a little bit of a sweet fruit taste upfront, with this flavor fading rather fast and giving way to even more sour of a lemon and apple cider vinegar flavor. Toward the end some more funk and grass come to the tongue, bringing with them even more sour and leaving one, in the end, with a very sour (for a bock) flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather thin for a 7.5 % abv with a carbonation level that is rather average. While the light body really is not great for the bock style, in light of the very sour tastes of the brew, it actually kind of works and makes it a little easier drinking.
Overall – Way too sour for me for the bock style. Not what I was expecting at all. No really balance and nott one I will go to again any time soon.

Beer Bloggers Conference - San Diego - Terrific Heller Bock good wheat flavors nice roast on the malt. Has tad of a kick in the alcohol. hawanna (3389) - Freising, GERMANY - AUG 9, 2014
caramel, cereal, herbs, barnyard, basement aromas, golden, cloudy, frothy, white foam, heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, medium sourness, full body, oily feel, soft carbonation, imho too sour for a german bock. Iphonephan (7487) - Jackson Hole/McLean, Virginia, USA - JUL 28, 2014
From a 16 oz can. Pours a hazy gold with an off white head. Malty nose. Astringent and tart flavors -- possibly skunked. Not nice. Ibrew2or3 (8913) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JUL 2, 2014
16oz can pours with a hazy copper to gold body that supports a thin white head. The mild aroma offers up malts, a dab of breadiness, lemon zest and some light funky yeast. Hmmm. The taste starts with malts and some wheat mixed with zingy lemon zest and then a funky sort of yeasty off note. This only gets worse with more samples. Seems a bit infected.
