Profanity Stout is the first in the Williams Bros ’chapeau’ series, in which we celebrate the skills of amateur brewers whose beers we think are exceptoinal and should be made available to a wider audience. With Profanity Stout we doff our caps to Peter and Craig, the ’Balls to the Wall’ brewing duo, who developed this recipe as students on the brewing course at Edinburgh’s Heriot Watt University. The beer is a blend of rich coffee and intensely fruity hop aromas on a base of full velvety malty mouthfeel.

Look: dark brown, opaque, unstable dark head. Aroma: berries, coffee, some sweet citruses. Taste: dry, bitter, roasted. Flavour: grassy, herbal hops, roasted notes, light molasses notes. Good and balanced, hoppy and "black".

Roasted malts, coffee, deep brown/black with a good and quite persistant tan head, medium body, law/medium carbonation, roasted malts and coffee, quite bitter and a bit watery...a good IS but i want more by a profanity.

Nose of rose water like a box of Boozy chocolates. Turkish delight sweets and milk chocolate. Rich bitterness with mild texture. Soft hints of brandy. Good beer

Bottle at home. Pours black colour with a beige head. Bitter espresso, chocolate, roasty malts. Extremely well balanced with a smooth dry finish. Very tasty.

Ipanainen stöyt. humalainen, mutta liian perus luonteeltaan. Paksuutta ja omaleimaisuutta kiitos.

A beer that’s okay, but could have been better. Color is really nice, deep black, absolutely no light coming through the glass, with a good, creamy head. Taste is full of coffee and that’s kind of all. Something is a bit sour too, but can’t put a name to it. Not a bad stout, but not to be remembered.

Bottle at home. Pours opaque black with a small lasting tan head. Aroma is roasty, coffee slight dark chocolate. Taste is roasted malts, dark cocoa, slight coffee, long dry finish which came as a pleasant surprise. Best Williams Bros brew I’ve tried.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Verksgata, Stavanger. BB date Nov. 2014. ABV is 7%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Low beige head. Nice roasty aroma with notes of chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Nice roasty flavour too, plenty of character without becoming too bitter. Notes of coffee, some fruit / prunes, chocolate and a hint of vanilla, moderate hops.
