THOUGHTS: One of the best standard brown ales I’ve ever had. Great balance and wonderful transition from sweet malt to citrus hops.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium brown with a small, tan head that hearly fully diminished rather quickly. The aroma contained mostly moderate to heavy mil chocolate and Hershey’s syrup; lighter caramel; light citrus hops; and toffee. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was heavily sweet, lightly better and lightly acidic with an average duration. There was milk chocolate, citrus hops, toffee, caramel and roasted malt. The medium body was sort of oily and fairly fizzy with a light astringent finish.

From notes. Had a pint of this on draft at Calypso’s in Virginia Beach on May 24. Not a bad little spot for a bar next to the hotel. The pour is almost more ruby than brown, but there is a creamy light tan head that fades off slowly leaving a good bit of lace. The aroma is pretty plain, as most browns are. There is a light chocolate, some caramel, a hint of toffee, and that’s about it. Maybe just some sweet malt. The flavor is much of the same. This is almost entirely comprised of chocolate, a hint of toffee, and a sweet, lingering malt on the back end. The mouth feel is surprisingly decent. It’s got a nice medium body to it with a soft carbonation and a lingering sweet, yet light, chocolate and toffee.
