We like to think of this as a cider for craft beer drinkers. We have thrown in everything we possibly could, including the kitchen sink to make the best possible cider we could. The result… this truly distinctive cider. Enjoy!

Willie Smith’s Organic Cider takes its inspiration from the traditional cider making techniques of Northern France. Light and refreshing acidity married with rounded warm apple flavours and a notable tannin structure create a perfectly balanced palate and a easy cleansing finish. The aroma holds red apple, toasty oak and fresh citrus; flavours that are mirrored on the palate. Overall the cider has bags of complexity and structure allowing it to be engaging and yet worthy of great contemplation. 5.4% ABV.

330 ml bottle bought at CitySuper in Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Looks: Cloudy hazy light straw golden colour with a thick layer of dirt-like yeast sediments; Near zero finger head with residual soapy white foam which fades in 5 seconds; Almost no lacing with fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant apple wine, with yoghurt tartness, strong oak barrel, apple puree, alcohol, sugar and light tannic.

Taste: Medium sweet apple wine, with unfiltered apple juice, strong alcohol, liquorices, sugar, strong barrel and strong tannin.

Body: Light body. Slick and boozy palate.

Mouth Feel: Strong apple wine in a thin but slick, fairly tart background, almost Ale-like. Strong apple pulp with tasty mushy flesh and skins. Strong booze with matching liquorices. Juicy sweet but natural and not cloying. Quite strong barrels with tannin finish. Strong and nice!

After Taste: Slightly dry. Rich winey and boozy to mouth.

Comments: The label said they threw in the kitchen sink for this one and do they walk the walk - unfiltered with strong natural apple juice, yet the apple wine taste is strong and smart. Fruity sweet and boozy with a hint of scrumpy, this farmhouse cider is fulfilling and then some. Joyful!

330ml bottle from Beer Cartel, Sydney. Hazy pale yellow gold colour, white foam head that dissipates away and aroma of apple, funk. Taste is tart apple, oak, vanilla, rubber, barnyard, acidic with drying tannins. Spritzy mouthfeel, light bodied, high carbonation, dry tannic finish. Quite drinkable.

RafeAU (628) - Los Angeles, California, USA - AUG 20, 2015
Canberra brewers club BJCP tastings. Tart/malic acid aroma. Oak (with some vanilla) on the first taste only. Mild sweetness, a little tartness, some astringency. these characters are mild - certainly not a french cider. Good cider - has some character but not too much, still quaffable.

Davros (3362) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAR 2, 2015
Pours cloudy straw. Nose shows baked apples, granny smiths, cloves. Similar flavours but with very little length. Fall flat very quickly. Could use a fair bit more carbonation.

mkel07 (6574) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - DEC 22, 2014
On tap at The Apple Shed in Huon Valley. Part of a tasting paddle. Crisp and fresh in the mouth this cider is not too bad. Looks pale and thin but it does have some substance to it.
