On tap, brewpub. I nearly always love Willy, but I think they may have been a bit off course with this one. Pours black with almost no head. Nose has intense bourbon, scotch and musky wood. Is there beer in there? Flavor hits palate with extreme sour note, quite bracing. Subsequent flavors are mellowed with some roasts, sweet malt, and molasses. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the idea of a Brett-laden Impy porter. Sadly, at least in its present form, Black Night is far too sharp and clashing in nose and palate to garner the kind of praise that I’m sure Willy was hoping for . . . Pours dark brown with no head. Smells of bourbon, boozy, sweet, caramelly. Taste is a real sour bomb with a lot of sourness, some bourbony hints and a sweet caremelly finish, Enjoyable but not for everyone.
