Pours a nearly opaque dark mahogany with a frothy full-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet dark caramel and chocolate malts with a touch of piny hops and some roastiness. Body starts fairly full and dark malty sweet with some doughy notes and nice, earthy bittering hoppiness toward a lingering rosaty dark chocolate finish. A nice stout. On tap at the brewpub. Tried the cask version and on tap. Somewhat prefer the tap version, so the rating is based on that. The name fits - it’s definitely dark, pure black with a thin, tight beige head. Nose is mildly burnt, sweet malt, a spicy whiskey like note. Flavor is roasty, just shy of burnt, mild chocolate bitter, and a light chalkiness. Rather dry chocolatey powder finish. Very good!
