Dark ale with moderate hops, tastes more like a brown ale than a black IPA. Some chocolate notes, but not strong. bellco33 (833) - Willington, Connecticut, USA - JUN 20, 2014
On tap in a pint glass: Pours dark brown with a minimal off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, currants, caramel, roasted malt, and pine. Taste is mostly chocolate and roasted malt, but with a bit of a hop kick in the back end. Medium body, light carbonation, a really tasty beer. Cask at GBBF 2010. A brown beer with no head. The aroma has strong notes of hops and lemon. The flavor is sweet with strong ntoes of lemons on the tongue, leading to a bitter finish. Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - JUN 17, 2011
On tap at SAVOR 2011. Served in a goblet.
Pours avery dark brown with a small off-white head and some sparse lacing that fades into a thin collar. The nose carries a bit of roasted grain and some grainy tannins. There is also some light earthy hops. The flavor has a bit of earthy hops and roasted malt, ending with a bitter finish, partly from the hops, partly from grain tannins. Medium body. Good carbonation. Decent enough, though I wouldn’t plan on having this again.

Clear dark brown color with a average, fizzy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, wood, light chocolate, heavy hoppy, orange - citrus, dark fruit, light resin. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, woody, hoppy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.
Cask gravity @ GBBF 2010. Pours a dark brown almost black color with a small off-white head. Has a slightly toasted malty hoppy aroma. Roasted malty hoppy pine flavor with some weak hints of licorice. Has a roasted malty hoppy bitter finish. jkwood04 (5452) - Connecticut, USA - DEC 24, 2010
On tap. Pours ruby/brown with a thin, beige head. Aroma has the smokiness of a porter and the hoppiness of an IPA. Nice mix between a porter and an IPA. Flavor of roasted malts and some chocolate with bitter hops at the finish. Really unique beer but there’s something that’s slightly off. Worth drinking if you are in the area. harrisoni (19023) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - OCT 23, 2010

Fruity blackcurrant aroma. Black strong in alcohol a little rich on the palate hoppy and fruity with a blackcurrant flavour. A hint of dryness in a bitter finish.
