Served in shaker at the brewpub. Cloudy orange amber, no head. Peaty tones to the flavor, medium body, slightly bitter lingering finish. Very enjoyable. iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - JAN 24, 2011
Draught at the brewery and now again from a growler. Clear medium orange with a one finger off-white head, fair retention. Grainy caramel malt nose followed with some moderate peaty smoked malt--hooray!--backed with a little honey. Flavor continues with a light earthy hop presence, otherwise the grainy malt and lovely peaty smokiness continues. Finishes semi-dry with bitterness peaking at a 2, slight tinge of alcohol. A little white grape shows as it warms. Now that I’m paying attention I get a little sweet rye, but only then did I pick it out. Medium body with light to moderate carbonation. Pretty much to a T in what I like in my Scotch ales--some grainy, not too sweet malt with some peated smoky malt backed by a little earthy hops. Not the best I’ve had, but the best I’ve had in recent memory. Cletus (6355) - Connecticut, USA - DEC 30, 2010
Pours copper with a white head. Smells of rye, some sweet malt, rosey. Tastes earthy and lightly spicy with some peppery hints and a touch of peaty smoke on the finish.
