Rereleased as plain old ’Oatmeal Stout’ this is a decent sweet stout. With enough depth to keep it interesting until the end, a good price tag ($4.50), and a good ambiance I would go for this again if the Peanut Butter Cup Porter was off at the time.
Aroma / Appearance - Fluid black liquid swirls around the glass. There was no room for any headspace other than wispy bands like clouds on a windy day. Black coffee, grits, and cold oatmeal provide the context of a southern breakfast left out just a little too long. Raisins and other sweet aspects help brighten the mood.
Flavor / Palate - Roasted black coffee, creamy milk, and burnt toast give this a smoky edge. The raisins soaked in chocolate sauce that mark the transition to a bitter finish create a layer of depth lacking from some other stouts. It could be helped by a bit more body but overall this is a satisfying sessionable stout.
