Our black IPA, Conqueror is a rich, complex and very distinctive ale. It is brewed with a careful blend of five speciality malts along with Summit and Cascade hops to produce an intense combination of roasted flavours balanced with full fresh pine hop aroma.

Opaque black beer, tiny tan head. A little pine hop and roasty malt on the nose. Crispy palate, slightly dry. Minerals. Piney hops. Decent malt base with a whisper of roast and a trace of chocolate. Semi dry finish. Solid.

On tap at Bree Louise with Sarah. Pours a clear dark brown with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a nice note of light roast and dark grain that works well some bitter pine. Flavor begins with dark grains and light roast but has a nice pine note to round of the beer with some bitterness. Smooth throughout.

The head is ok, the body dark, red-black. It smells very different, hoppy. The taste is hoppy, malty-different, refreshing, ok! 12/10/10/10/-/10

On cask at The Stockbridge Tap. Pours a very dark ruby brown colour with a decent tan head. Aroma of plums, sarsaparilla, blackcurrant and blackberry. Similar flavours with moderate carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Alcohol is quite present. Interesting and unlike any other black ipa I’ve had.

planky84 (3453) - Lee, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 30, 2012
Bottle from Mr Lawrence Wine Merchants, Brockley. Dark brown pour with a beige head. Coffee, caramel and licorice aroma. Smoke and dark fruit flavour. Interesting.

On Cask at the Horse and Groom in Windsor (Dec ’11). Dark Brown to Black in appearance.
Very hoppy for a 5% beer, tan flavours, slightly burnt, very mild smoke going on, verging on a burnt nut/oil combo.

Great tasting beer and a great first effort at a black IPA from a small English brewer.

I immediately followed up with a 2nd pint - it made me want to go back for more!

On tap - Charles Lamb (Angel, Islington) - low carbonation, chocolate malt, sweeter than Guinness, finish not quite as bitter ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPad

On tap at The Rake, London. Pours a dark brown colour with a small bwige head. Aroma is roasted malts and piney citrusy hops. Well done. Taste is similarly balanced but assertive, with espresso and nuts alongside to mango and pineapple. Body is medium with lively carbonation. Overall, an enjoyable black IPA.

Cask in The Harp. Opaque black, thin off white head. Nose is tropical fruit, mango, pine hop, roasted malt. Taste is lots of tropical fruit, pine and a nice balanced malt with a tinge of roasted bitterness. Really very good.
