Our first beer and we have high hopes that one day our pump clip will become as recognisable around Windsor as the Guard’s bearskin hats that the design it is based upon. Guardsman Best Bitter is a copper-coloured session strength ale with a tangy taste, smoothed by oak conditioning and a really fresh hop. It is brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt and a blend of Pilgrim, Styrian Golding and Fuggles hops.

Copper, clear, no head; biscuity malt and earthy hops; a little nutty; whilst the dry, moderately bitter finish is softer than most, presumably down to the oak, you’d be hard pressed to describe this as anything other than an ok trad bitter.

Cask pint at Queens Head, Wokingham, on October 17, 2017.
Fruity, herbal taste. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Slight hazy brown color, tan head with lacing. Fruity, hoppy scent.

Cask at Spoons in Heathrow Teeminal Two. What a way to say goodbye to the UK than an astounding pint of bitter. This beer, of which really o had little expectation was a joy to drink. Sure the flavours are not complex and it settled very badly but it is EXTREMLY gluggable and I think a great bitter should do just that. It should make u want more, make the conversation flow better and taste comforting. I loved this. Well done Windsor.

Bottle @ Legoland Windsor. Excellent, malty bitter; well balanced and gentle. My wife finds features of mushroom in aroma.

Three cask, hand-pulled pints in the excellent Admiral Benbow, on the beach at Chapel St Leonards, Lincolnshire: 15th Jan 2017. Lovely looking beer, amber/copper body wise, beige head that lasted. On the malty side and semi-sweet, balanced by the hop blend that calms the sweetness down nicely. Some caramel hints in both the nose and taste, piney bitterness from the hops.

Benzai (16918) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - AUG 8, 2016
Cask. Clear light amber color, no head. Smell and taste malts, lightly caramel and a bit metallic and softly bitter. Meh.

Cask. Fast klares bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit geringen weißen schaumkrone. Geruch nussig, karamellig, mild hopfig. Geschmack nussig mild röstmalzig, leicht hopfig bitter okay!

ManVsBeer (11126) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JUN 27, 2016
Cask @ Hart & Spool, Borehamwood. Hazy deeper amber coloured with a frothy head. Crisp, medium bodied, with a mild pleasant general fruitiness with citrus orange involved.

The_Osprey (9670) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 10, 2016
Cask HP at The William Morris Hammersmith as Windsor and Eton Guardsman. Dark orange brown, still, hazy, small foamy beige head. Aroma is light and airy, some lavender soap and simple sugars. Body is smooth, light with tingly carbonation. Taste is fairly light and watery, sodawater, thin bready malts, tangy drying flowery hops. From the colour of this you’d assume plenty of supporting malt, but it’s a bit lacking in the malt department. Quite a decent hop presence but watery and lacking a little oomph. Alright and drinkable, but not moreish.
